Evgeni Malkin began his career with his hometown club in Russia called Metallurg Magnitogorsk. Evgeni Malkin was drafted second overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2004 NHL Draft. Evgeni Malkin began playing for the Penguins in the 2006-07 season.
Evgeni Malkin won the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL Rookie of the Year in 2006-07. In 2012 Malkin was awarded the Hart Trophy and Ted Lindsay Award, awarded to the best player as voted on by the players, after winning the Art Ross Trophy for the second time; his 12-point lead was the largest margin of victory since the 1998-99 season.
