Kölzig spent almost his entire 14-year career playing for the Washington Capitals. He played eight games with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Kölzig was originally drafted by the Washington Capitals in 1989. He played his first game that season but after that he was bumped down to the minor leagues. Kölzig played with the Baltimore Skipjacks, Rochester Americans and Portland Pirates of the AHL. Olaf Kölzig also spent one year with the Hampton Roads Admiral of the East Coast Hockey League. When he was playing with the Portland Pirates Kölzig was awarded with the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy and the Hap Holmes Memorial Award. In 1995-96, the Capitals recalled him as their back-up for Jim Carey. In 1996-97, the Capitals acquired Bill Ranford and Kölzig stayed as a back-up goaltender. In early 1997 Ranford suffered an injury and Kölzig took over doing quite well, playing 33 games with a 2.20 goals against average. In 2000 Kölzig won the Vezina Trophy. Kölzig played with the Capitals until 2008 when he signed a contract with Tampa Bay. Kölzig got injured and he could not play through the entire season. In 2009 Kölzig announced his retirement. Learn More About Pat Riggin: Pat Riggin was a professional goaltender who played in the NHL for the Atlanta Flames, Calgary Flames, Washington Capitals, Boston Bruins and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Riggin also played for the Birmingham Bulls of the World Hockey Association. Pat Riggin's first regular season was with the London Knights in the OMJHL, his first year in the NHL was 1979 with the Atlanta Flames. Riggin was very competitive about being the starting goalie but the Flames had a three-way rotation of him, Dan Bouchard and Reggie Lemilin. After a while it became a duo rotation with just Riggin and Bouchard but both had sizable egos and in 1982 Riggin was traded to the Washington Capitals. From the season, he joined the Washington Capitals, Riggin had a rollercoaster career. In 1983, Riggin was the number one stopper but Al Jensen soon took the spot and it was he who was chosen to play in the All-Star Game. After this Riggin hurt his back but the team was still able to secure the Jennings Trophy between the two goaltenders. In 1985-1986 Riggin was off to a slow start and was traded to Boston. Learn More About John Vanbiesbrouck: John Vanbiesbrouck was a popular goaltender that played in the NHL for the New York Rangers, Florida Panthers, Philadelphia Flyers, New York Islanders and New Jersey Devils. He was first drafted by the Rangers in 1981 but played for their minor affiliate the Tulsa Oilers. Vanbiesbrouck’s first official season with the Rangers was 1984-85. That year Vanbiesbrouck won a Vezina Trophy and was a First Team All-Star the next season. In 1993, Vanbiesbrouck was traded to the Florida Panthers and was a huge factor in the Panthers winning the Stanley Cup in 1996. While with Florida, Vanbiesbrouck recorded his 300th career victory, becoming the fifteenth goalie to do so and the second American goalie. Vanbiesbrouck also played on an international level with the United States many times. He played in the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships in 1982 and played at four IIHF World Championships.
