Learn More about Edgar Laprade:

Edgar Laprade was a quick skating playmaker that played his entire NHL career with the New York Rangers from 1945-1955.  Laprade was known for his determination and strong work ethic and was nicknamed “the Beaver” by his teammates.  In his first season with the NHL, Laprade earned 34 points in 49 games and won the Calder Memorial Trophy for rookie of the year.  He made four All-Star game appearances throughout his career.  Edgar was also a gentleman on the ice going 3 full seasons without a penalty earning the Lady Byng Trophy.  Unfortunately, Edgar Laprade never got his name on a Stanley Cup.  The closest he got was a heartbreaking game seven defeat in overtime to the Detroit Red Wings in 1950.  Laprade hung up his skates in 1955.  He was inducted into the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame in 1982 and the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1993.  Edgar Laprade passed away in 2014 at the age of 94.
