Learn More About Esa Tikkanen:

Esa Tikkanen is a retired ice hockey player.  He played left wing in the NHL for the Edmonton Oilers, New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues, New Jersey Devils, Vancouver Canucks, Florida Panthers and the Washington Capitals.  He won the Stanley Cup five times in his career in 1985, 1987, 1988, 1990 with the Oilers and 1994 with the Rangers.

Esa Tikkanen was originally drafted in 1983 by the Edmonton Oilers.  Tikkanen’s first game in the NHL was the second game of the 1985 Stanley Cup Playoffs.  By playing in this one game, Tikkanen was eligible to have his name put on the Stanley Cup before his career even began.  Tikkanen played with the Oilers until 1991.

After this his career was a bit jumpy.  In 1993, he was traded to the Rangers for a season.  He was then traded to the St. Louis Blues where he played 11 games when he was traded to the New Jersey Devils.  In 1996-1997, Tikkanen was traded yet again to the Rangers.

In the summer of 1997 Tikkanen became a free agent but soon signed a contract with the Panthers which was also a short stay as he was traded to the Capitals.  He appeared in 21 games and this was his last full season.
