Learn More about John LeClair:

John LeClair was an NHL winger that played for 16 seasons in the NHL from 1991-2006 for the Montreal Canadiens, Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins.  John LeClair’s humble beginnings in hockey came from a neighbourhood rink build in an old railroad shed and backyard rink.  By high school he was playing in community leagues and finally made his high school’s hockey team in his sophomore year.  He was drafted 33 overall by the Montreal Canadiens but decided to attend the University of Vermont after high school.  Right after his final game in his senior year, LeClair signed with the Habs and less than a week later made his NHL debut. He won the Stanley Cup with the Canadiens where he scored two overtime game winning goals.

In 1995, John LeClair was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers where he became part of the “Legion of Doom” line with Eric Lindros and Mikael Renberg.  By 1998, LeClair had his third consecutive 50 goal season and was one of the best power forwards in the game.  The new salary cap forced the Flyers to trade LeClair after 10 seasons, but he left his mark as one of the top 10 players in Flyers’ franchise history with 333 regular season goals and 35 in the playoffs.

John LeClair ended his career as a Pittsburgh Penguin providing experience and leadership to a young team that included Sydney Crosby.  LeClair was inducted into the US Hockey Hall of Fame in 2009, the Vermont Sports Hall of Fame in 2012 and the Philadelphia Flyers Hall of Fame in 2014.  Time will tell if his 406 goals, 413 assists and 819 points in 967 games will be enough to earn him a spot in the Hockey Hall of Fame.
