Learn More About Ryan Smyth:

Ryan Smyth was a professional ice hockey player.  He played left wing for the Edmonton Oilers, New York Islanders, Colorado Avalanche and the Los Angeles Kings.

Ryan Smyth was originally drafted in 1994 by the Edmonton Oilers.  Smyth made his debut in 1994-1995 against the Kings.  He played in 3 games that season but didn’t receive any points.  Smyth recorded his first goal in November of 1995. Smyth spent the whole 1996-1997 with the Oilers.  That season he had 39 goals and 61 points over 82 games.  At the beginning of the season Smyth recorded his first five career hat tricks.  With 20 power play goals, he tied Wayne Gretzky’s team record set in 1983-1984.  After 12 seasons with the Oilers, Smyth was traded to the Islanders.  He was ranked seventh on the Oilers all-time list with 549 points scored over 770 games.

Smyth went to the Islanders but didn’t play very long with them.  He played 18 games with them during the 2006-2007 season after which he was traded to Colorado.  While playing with Colorado, Smyth had early chemistry with Joe Sakic but the two were sidelined when they both got injured.  Smyth bounced back the next season and stayed healthy for the majority of it before being traded to the Kings.  In the 2010-2011 season Smyth scored his 1,000th NHL goal.  Smyth ended his career with the Edmonton Oilers.  He played with them from 2011-2014 before retiring.
