Teemu Selanne, also known as the Finnish Flash, is a retired right winger that spent 15 seasons in the NHL with teams such as the Winnipeg Jets, Anaheim Ducks, San Jose Sharks and the Colorado Avalanche. He started off his NHL career with a bang, scoring 76 goals for the Jets (an NHL record) and winning the Calder Memorial Trophy.
Teemu Selanne was traded to the Anaheim Mighty Ducks where he was paired with teammate Paul Kariya, the young duo helped lead the Ducks to their first ever playoff appearance. Selanne played briefly with the San Jose Sharks before opting to be trade to the Colorado Avalanche to rejoin Kariya in what they’d hoped would be their best chance at winning the Stanley Cup.
Although his cup dreams with Colorado never materialized, Teemu Selanne returned again to the Anaheim Ducks where he successfully led his team to the 2006-07 Stanley Cup Championship.
Teemu Selanne retired from hockey holding numerous records and awards. He ended his career after playing over 1400 regular season games, scoring 684 goals (11th all time in the NHL) and 1457 points (15th). He holds many of the franchise records for the Anaheim Ducks and his was the first number retired by the team.
