Brendan Shanahan is a retired left winger who was drafted by the New Jersey Devils in 1987. He played for the New Jersey Devils, St. Louis Blues, Detroit Red Wings and the New York Rangers. Shanahan won the Stanley Cup three times with the Detroit Red Wings in 1997, 1998 and 2002. In 2017 Shanahan was part of the second group to be named the 100 greatest NHL Players in History.
Shanahan is a great player and at the end of his playing career he had scored 656 goals. Shanahan was one of the only players in NHL history with over 600 goals and 2000 minutes of penalty time.
Brendan Shanahan also played for Team Canada internationally. He won a gold medal at the 1994 World Championship and an Olympic gold medal in 2002. He also won the 1991 Canada Cup. Having won three of the most prominent titles in hockey Shanahan was made a member of the Triple Gold Club.
Brendan Shanahan was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame on November 8th in 2013.
Following his retirement as a player, Brendan Shanahan became the NHL’s Vice President of hockey and development. He later became Senior Vice President. In 2014, Shanahan became President and alternate governor for the Toronto Maple Leafs.
