John Vanbiesbrouck was a popular goaltender that played in the NHL for the New York Rangers, Florida Panthers, Philadelphia Flyers, New York Islanders and New Jersey Devils.  He was first drafted by the Rangers in 1981 but played for their minor affiliate the Tulsa Oilers.  Vanbiesbrouck’s first official season with the Rangers was 1984-85.  That year Vanbiesbrouck won a Vezina Trophy and was a First Team All-Star the next season.

In 1993, Vanbiesbrouck was traded to the Florida Panthers and was a huge factor in the Panthers winning the Stanley Cup in 1996. While with Florida, Vanbiesbrouck recorded his 300th career victory, becoming the fifteenth goalie to do so and the second American goalie.

Vanbiesbrouck also played on an international level with the United States many times.  He played in the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships in 1982 and played at four IIHF World Championships.  Vanbiesbrouck also played in two Canada Cups.

After his career, Vanbiesbrouck took over as the manager and head coach of the Greyhounds and in 2013 became the general manager of the United States Hockey League’s Muskegon Lumberjacks.

John Vanbiesbrouck was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2007.
