Nicklas Lidström was a Swedish defenceman who played 20 seasons in the NHL all for the Detroit Red Wings.  He is the all-time leader in games played for the same team.  Throughout his career, Lidström won four Stanley Cups, seven James Norris Memorial Trophies (for top defenceman) and one Conn Smythe Trophy (playoff MVP). Lidström was also voted into twelve NHL All-Star games. He was an alternate captain for the Red Wings starting in the 1997-98 season and was made captain when Steve Yzerman retired in 2006.  In 2011 Lidström became the fourteenth player in NHL history to play over 1500 games.  Lidström was also part of the second group to be named 100 greatest NHL players in history in 2017.

Internationally, Nicklas Lidström represented Team Sweden.  In 1991, he was a gold medal winner at the World Championships. Lidström participated in the Olympics and won a gold medal in 2006.  He was captain of Team Sweden for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Nicklas Lidström was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame and the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2014.  He was also inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2015.  His number 5 jersey was raised to the rafters and retired by the Red Wings.
