Despite his time spent in the penalty box, Ted Lindsay was a great player who scored over 800 points during his Hall of Fame career. Lindsay also won four Stanley cups with the Detroit Red Wings and was named in the first group of NHL's 100 greatest Players in 2017. Ted Lindsay’s first season was in 1944 when he was 19. He first played for Detroit and was part of the high scoring “Production Line” with Sid Abel and superstar Gordie Howe. In the 1949-1950 season, Lindsay won the Art Ross Trophy for leading the league in points during the regular and played a large role in his team winning the Stanley Cup. In the late 1950s Lindsay also helped organize the National Hockey League Players Association (NHLPA). This was a huge factor to Ted Lindsay being traded to the Blackhawks. Lindsay played three seasons with the Blackhawks but wanted to retire a Red Wing so his last season in 1964-65 he played for Detroit. Ted Lindsay was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1966 and Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 2002. Also, Ted Lindsay's #7 was retired by the Detroit Red Wings in 1991. Middleton had a strong rookie season with the Rangers but at the end of the second season was traded to the Boston Bruins in what sportswriters called one of the most lopsided deals in NHL history. Rick Middleton was traded to Bruins for Ken Hodge, a veteran player. Hodge would only play one season with the Rangers before putting up his skates. Middleton, on the other hand, was a young player at the beginning of his career and would spend the next twelve seasons in a Bruins uniform. Coach Don Cherry helped develop Rick Middleton into a solid two way forward who was strong on both the power play and the penalty kill. Middleton had five straight forty goal and 90 point seasons and finished his tenure in Boston with nearly 900 points as a Bruin. In 1985, Middleton became co-captain of the Bruins wearing the “C” during home games while teammate Ray Bourque captained the team for away games. He set an NHL record for most points in a playoff series with 19 and most assists in a playoff series with 14. His record 105 points in the 1983-1984 season tied Ken Hodges for most points by a right winger for the Boston franchise. He retired from hockey after 1005 regular season games and 988 points. His time in Montreal was short-lived when he was traded to the New York Islanders during the 1994-1995 season. Kirk Muller made it well known that he did not want to play for the Islanders. He reluctantly reported to and played in a handful of games before he walked out on the team, forcing a trade. He was dealt to the Toronto Maple Leafs where he was reunited with his former Habs’ coach Pat Burns. Muller didn’t produce for the Leafs as expected as he was slowing with age. He was traded to the Florida Panthers where he became a leader in the dressing room, more so than on the ice where his offensive production was all but gone. Muller struggled in Florida and was traded to the Dallas Stars in the middle of the 1999-2000 season. He became part of the “Grumpy Old Men” line with Mike Keane and John MacLean. After 4 seasons in Dallas, Muller retired at the end of the 2002-2003 season. Following his retirement as a player, Muller returned to the Habs as an assistant coach from 2006 to 2011. He was a coach of the Carolina Hurricanes from 2011-2014 and assistant coach of the St. Louis Blues from2014-2016. He is currently an associate coach of the Montreal Canadiens. Tikkanen's first game in the NHL was the second game of the 1985 Stanley Cup Playoffs. By playing in this one game, Tikkanen was eligible to have his name put on the Stanley Cup before his career even began. Tikkanen played with the Oilers until 1991. After this his career was a bit jumpy. In 1993, he was traded to the Rangers for a season. He was then traded to the St. Louis Blues where he played 11 games when he was traded to the New Jersey Devils. In 1996-1997, Tikkanen was traded yet again to the Rangers. In the summer of 1997 Tikkanen became a free agent but soon signed a contract with the Panthers which was also a short stay as he was traded to the Capitals. He appeared in 21 games and this was his last full season. Own a piece of hockey history with an Esa Tikkanen Edmonton Oilers Signed Fanatics Vintage Hockey Jersey from Slap Shot Signatures today!

Learn More About Cam Neely: Cam Neely was a right winger that was drafted into the NHL by the Vancouver Canucks in 1983, ninth overall. He played 3 seasons with the Canucks before being traded to the Boston Bruins. Neely joining the Bruins was turning point in his career where he was given more opportunity to play and a chance to contribute offensively, not just physically. His first full season following the trade, Neely led the club with 36 goals and finishing the season with 72 points, more than doubling his previous year’s performance. Neely’s success stemmed from not only his quick, powerful shots on goal but his also his physical play and devastating body checks. He became a power forward for the Bruins and earned the nickname “Bam-Bam Cam.” His first season with the Bruins ended with 143 minutes in the penalty box. Sadly, Neely’s career was cut short due to repeated knee injuries and a degenerative hip condition at the age of 31. However, he did have some remarkable scoring achievements. Only Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Brett Hull scored a better goals per game average over the course of a season. He reached the 50 goal mark 3 times and played in 5 All-Star Games. His intense effort to return to the NHL despite the injuries earned him a Masterson Trophy and the Boston Bruins honored him by raising his number 8 to the rafters on January 12, 2004.
