Learn More about Pierre Bouchard: Hockey runs in the blood of NHLer Pierre Bouchard, who followed in his father Butch’s footsteps becoming a defenceman for the Montreal Canadiens in the 1970s. Pierre was called up from the minors for the 1971 season after the Habs had failed to make the playoffs the previous season for the first time in 22 years. Fresh young talent was just what the Canadiens needed to not only make the playoffs but win the Stanley Cup. Pierre Bouchard went on to win another four Cups with the Montreal Canadiens. His five cups along with this father’s four gave them the distinction of most Stanley Cup wins among a father/son duo in NHL history. Just like his father, Pierre Bouchard was an excellent stay at home defenceman. He was often one to break up fights although he preferred to play a clean game himself. He was a goaltender that played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, Minnesota North Stars and the Vancouver Canucks. Maniago was originally drafted by Toronto in 1960. He played seven games for the Leafs in the 1960-1961 season. He was picked by the Montreal Canadiens the following season. The high point of his time with Montreal would be a 14-game stint in the relief of the ailing Jaques Plante in 1963. Maniago had a good season with the Minneapolis Bruins of the CHL in 1965, winning the league's MVP award. After that he was traded to the Rangers. In 1966, Maniago competed for the starter goalie and was also given a questionable distinction by allowing Bobby Hull to score his 51st goal that year as Hull was the first in history to do so. In 1967, Maniago was the expanding Minnesota North Stars first pick for a goaltender. Due to Maniago’s play the North Stars were led to the playoffs five out of six of their first seasons however at the end Minnesota struggled. They tried to find a suitable goalie to help Maniago before taking Gump Worsley out of retirement in 1970. After 1974, Minnesota's fortune sagged as Worsley retired and Maniago was traded to the Canucks where he played two seasons before retirement. In 1983, he was named interim captain for the North Stars making him the youngest captain at the time at 19 years and 4 month. Rogie Vachon was honoured by the Los Angeles Kings as his was the first number retired by the franchise in 1985. Following his retirement as a player, Rogie Vachon continued to serve the LA Kings as GM from 1984-1992. He was interim head coach on 3 separate occasions.
