Learn More about Adam Foote: Adam Foote was a former defenseman drafted twenty second overall in the 1989 NHL draft. He signed with the Quebec Nordiques where he played until 1995 when the franchise relocated to Colorado to become the Avalanche. In Colorado, he won two Stanley Cups, one in 1996 and the second in 2001. In the 2005-2006 season, Foote signed on with the Columbus Blue Jackets after thirteen seasons with Colorado, here he was automatically assigned alternate captain until defenseman Luke Richardson stepped down from his captaincy in December 2005. Three seasons later, Foote was traded back to Colorado for two conditional draft picks. On June 28th, 2008, Foote signed again with Colorado for a two-year contract. The first full season of this contract was cut short for Foote due to an injury resulting in him only playing 42 games. Further injuries in the lineup resulted in Colorado finishing last in the Western Conference that year. In the off-season captain Joe Sakic announced his retirement and Foote was chosen as his replacement in 2009. In April 2011, Foote played his last game with Colorado before his retirement. Learn More about Ron Hextall: Ron Hextall was an NHL goaltender that was active in the NHL from 1984-1999, playing for the Philadelphia Flyers, Quebec Nordiques and the New York Islanders. Hextall is a third generation NHL player-the grandson of Hall of Famer Bryan Hextall (NY Rangers) and son of Bryan Hextall Jr. who played in the NHL for 10 seasons, mainly for the Pittsburgh Penguins. His uncle, Dennis Hextall spent 14 seasons in the NHL. Ron Hextall brought a new style of goaltending to the NHL because he liked to come out of the net and play the puck, lending support to his team’s defensemen. Hextall was also a very aggressive goalie which lead to three suspensions of 6 or more games throughout his career. He had more than 100 penalty minute in each of his first three seasons and set NHL records for penalty minutes by a goaltender. Hextall was an excellent stick handler and became the first NHL goalie to score a goal, not once but twice, once against the Bruins on an empty net and again against the Capitals. Ron Hextall played his first four NHL seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers. A combination of injures and suspensions let Hextall to be traded to the Quebec Nordiques in 1992 as part of the Eric Lindros trade when Lindros refused to play for the Nordiques who drafted him first overall in the 1991 Entry Draft. Hextall helped the Nordiques reach the playoffs and was again traded the following season to the New York Islander where he played one season before being sent back to the Flyers. Hextall helped the Flyers to the 1997 Stanley Cup Finals. At the end of the 1998-1998 season, Hextall was waived by the Flyers and went undrafted in the expansion draft. He announced his retirement on September 6, 1999. After his retirement as a player, Ron Hextall became a Flyers scout and eventually worked his way up to General Manger of the Philadelphia Flyers in 2014. Sundin made his NHL debut with the Nordiques in the 1990-91 season becoming a leading goal scorer, finishing second on the team with 59 points. Sundin continued to improve, establishing himself as a point-per-game player throughout his career. Mats Sundin was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs during the 1994 off season. Sundin made an immediate impact with the Leafs, becoming a leading goal scorer for the team. With the departure of Captain Doug Gilmour, Sundin became the 16th captain of the Maple Leafs and the first European captain in team history. Sundin achieved many milestones during his time in Toronto: He became the 35th player in NHL history to reach the 500 goal mark; he scored his 917th point as a Maple Leaf, breaking Darryl Sittler’s franchise all-time record and he also scored his 390th goal in the same game to take the all-time goal scoring lead, later becoming the first player to score 400 goals as a Toronto Maple Leaf. Learn More About Joe Sakic: Joe Sakic was drafted 15th overall by the Quebec Nordiques in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft and made his NHL debut on October 6, 1988 and enjoyed a fine rookie season with 62 points in 70 games followed up with 102 points the following season. Sakic became the captain of the franchise in 1992-93 reaching the 100-point plateau by collecting 105. The Quebec Nordiques relocated to Denver as the Colorado Avalanche beginning with the 1995-96 season. Joe Sakic accumulated 120 points and led the newly-relocated franchise to its first Stanley Cup championship. He was named winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP after scoring 34 points that included six game-winning goals in 22 games. On December 27, 1999, Joe Sakic reached 1,000 career points. In 2000-01, he again reached the 100-point mark, finishing with 118 along with a career-best 54 goals. He was awarded the Hart Trophy and the Lester B. Pearson Award as the league's most valuable player as well as the Lady Byng Trophy. Joe Sakic again led the Avalanche to a Stanley Cup championship, defeating the New Jersey Devils in the final. Lafleur had a slow start when he joined the NHL but had found his groove by 1974, becoming the first player in the NHL to score 50 goals and 100 points in 6 straight seasons. He helped the Canadiens win 5 Stanley Cups in 1973, 1976, 1977, 1978, and 1979. Lafleur is the all-time leading goal scorer for the Canadiens with 518 goals and 728 assists in 14 years. He holds the franchise record for 136 points in a season in 1976-77. Guy Lafleur was a fan favorite, nicknamed “the Flower” by English speakers and “Le Demon Blond” (the Blond Demon) by French speakers. Following the 1979 season, several key players retired and the Canadiens’ winning streak came to an end. Injuries both on and off the ice, shortened Lafleur’s season and his production dropped significantly. During the 1984-85 season, Lafleur was unhappy with the ice time he received and asked to be traded. GM Serge Savard refused his request and Lafleur decided to retire. Lafleur was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1988. Guy Lafleur briefly returned to the NHL after his induction to the Hall of Fame, one of only three players to do so—Gordie Howe before him and Mario Lemieux after. He played for the New York Rangers for the 1988-89 season and was traded to the Quebec Nordiques for the next two seasons, wishing to end his playing career in Quebec.
