He began his NHL career as a player in 1953 as a defenseman for the Detroit Red Wings, winning his first Stanley Cup in 1954. He would go on to play for the Chicago Blackhawks winning his second Cup in 1961, and two more with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1962 and 1964. Arbour subsequently became first captain of the expansion team the St. Louis Blues. He retired as a player early in the 1970-71 season. Al Arbour began his coaching career with the St. Louis Blues before taking on a young New York Islanders in 1973. He took the Islanders from dead last in the standing to the Stanley Cup finals in just 2 seasons. Although the Islanders reached the playoffs and finals in later seasons, it wasn’t until 1980 that they would bring home their first Stanley Cup. They won 3 more consecutive Stanley Cups, setting a new record for Stanley Cup victories and 19 consecutive playoff series victories. Arbour would retire from coaching for an executive position in 1986 although he would once again return to the bench in 1989 to once again coach the Islanders. By the time he retired for good, Al Arbour had coached 1500 games with the same team and won 740 games. He is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame and the New York Islanders Hall of Fame. Stanley began his NHL career with the New York Rangers in 1948-1949. He played with them for five years before spending time in the WHL. After that he was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks. After the Blackhawks, Stanley spent 1956-1958 with the Bruins before being traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Stanley stayed with them for 10 years. During his time with the Leafs, Stanley helped take home four Stanley Cups in 1962, 1963, 1964 and 1967. After his 1967 Stanley Cup win, Stanley played the last of his seasons with the Flyers and then retired after the 1969 season. During his entire NHL career, Allan Stanley was in 1,244 regular NHL games. He scored 100 goals, had 33 assists and scored 433 points. Allan Stanley was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1981 and was ranked 60 in a list of greatest Ranger players. Playing on frozen ponds in his native Calgary until after nightfall, Bill Gadsby left home at the age of 17 to pursue a career on the ice. He got his lucky break when Chicago Blackhawks scout, Bill Tobin, discovered the talented defenseman and offered him a contract. After only 12 games in the minors, Gadsby made it to the NHL at the age of 18. In his debut game, he got a cut to the face that took 12 stitches to close. Gadsby was a solid defenseman, playing for the Blackhawks until 1954 when he was traded to the New York Rangers. During his tenure with the Rangers, Gadsby was elected to 4 All-Star Games and in 1957-1958, he set a defense record for 46 assists. Bill Gadsby played for the Detroit Red Wings, hopeful that he would finally capture a Stanley Cup win. Gadsby reached several milestones while in Detroit: first defenceman to reach 500 points, and his 20th NHL season. Gadsby did reach the Stanley Cup finals in 1964, only to lose to the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 7. A goaltender that played for the Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks and the New Jersey Devils. Sauvé was originally drafted in 1975 by the Buffalo Sabres and was drafted the same year by the Cincinnati Stingers of the WHA but Sauvé’s ambition was to play in the NHL. The Sabres selected three goaltenders Sauvé being one of the more notable ones. Sauvé played four games with the Sabres that season but he spent most of his time with the AHL's Rhode Island Reds. The next few seasons Sauvé split time with the Hershey Bears and the Sabres. In 1978-1979, Sauvé entered training camp determined to make good in the NHL however he suffered some injuries and began the season with Hershey. Later, he was called up to the Sabres permanently. Bob Sauvé and Don Edwards made an impact on the Sabres. In 1979-1980 Sauvé led in goals against average and was the co-recipient of the Vezina Trophy. In 1981, Sauvé was traded to the Red Wings but he resigned with the Sabres in 1982. He was then traded again to Calgary. There he met Tom Barrasso and they shared the William M Jennings Trophy for a few seasons. Sauvé spent two seasons with the Black Hawks before ending his career with the Devils in 1989.
