The bulk of his career was spent with the Sabres who drafted him 29th overall in 1974. He excelled in his rookie season, accumulating 62 points total. He was selected to two All-Star teams and had two 50 goal seasons with a career best of 56 goals (tied for best in the NHL) and a total of 89 points. Gare was team captain from 1977 until 1981 when he was traded to the Detroit Red Wings. Danny Gare ended his career as an Edmonton Oiler in 1987 after 819 games. After his retirement as a player, Danny Gare was an assistant coach and color analyst for the Tampa Bay Lightning. He was also a broadcaster for the Sabres and the Columbus Blue Jackets. He was inducted into the Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame in 1994 and had his number 18 retired by the Sabres in 2005. He played in the NHL and WHA as a goaltender. During his career, Mio played for the Edmonton Oilers, New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings and the Indianapolis Racers. Mio first put himself on the map for professional hockey when he decided to join the Colorado College from 1972-1976. During that time Mio became a standout as he won first and second all-star awards. He also made the NCAA west first all-American team two years in a row. In 1974, Mio was officially drafted by the Blackhawks and the Blazers of the WHA but he played with neither and spent most of his time playing with smaller teams until he went to the Indianapolis Racers. Mio's goaltending was rough with the Racers and the biggest thing in his career would be befriending Wayne Gretzky. Shortly after that Mio was traded again to the Oilers in 1978. In Alberta, Mio got his first NHL action and had his first winning season in 1980-1981 before being traded again to the Rangers. With New York Mio backstopped the Rangers for two seasons, then he was traded to Detroit for a season before retiring in 1986. He played two seasons with them but was traded along with Rick Smith and Bob Stewart to California. Larionov left North America to play in Switzerland for one year before returning to NHL to play for the San Jose Sharks where he served as alternate captain for the 1994-95 season. The following season, Igor Larionov was traded to the Detroit Red Wings where coach Scotty Bowman placed him on the highly effective “Russian Five” line. The Russian Five consisted of Viacheslav Fetisov, Sergei Fedorov, Vyacheslav Kozlov and Vladimir Konstantinov. They were an integral part of the Detroit’s back to back Stanley Cup Championships in 1997 and 1998. Larionov was traded to the Florida Panthers where he was reunited with Pavel Bure, however, he was traded back to the Red Wings before the season was over. He played for the New Jersey Devils, St. Louis Blues, Detroit Red Wings and the New York Rangers. Shanahan won the Stanley Cup three times with the Detroit Red Wings in 1997, 1998 and 2002. In 2017 Shanahan was part of the second group to be named the 100 greatest NHL Players in History. Shanahan is a great player and at the end of his playing career he had scored 656 goals. Shanahan was one of the only players in NHL history with over 600 goals and 2000 minutes of penalty time. Brendan Shanahan also played for Team Canada internationally. Learn More About Marcel Pronovost Marcel Pronovost was a professional ice hockey player that played in the NHL from 1949 to 1970. Pronovost played defense for the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs. When Gordie Howe was injured during the 1950 Stanley Cup Championship, Detroit moved up Red Kelly and put Pronovost on defense. Pronovost was a great player and was a member of four Stanley Cup championships with Detroit, his first championship in 1950. Pronovost got his fifth Stanley Cup win with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1967. Marcel Pronovost was considered one of the top defencemen of his era. He was named the alternate captain of the Red Wings by the 1956-57 season. Not only was Marcel Pronovost a great player he was also a coach. He started coaching in 1969. Pronovost was started out coaching the Windsor Spitfires but during the 1972-1973 season, Pronovost was head coach of the Chicago Cougars in the WHA. Professionally, Pronovost coached 104 games for the Buffalo Sabres and briefly he was an associate coach of the Red Wings. After his coaching career, Marcel Pronovost worked for the NHL Central Scouting Bureau but in 1990 he was hired as a scout for the New Jersey Devils. Marcel Pronovost was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as a player in 1978.
