Playing on frozen ponds in his native Calgary until after nightfall, Bill Gadsby left home at the age of 17 to pursue a career on the ice. He got his lucky break when Chicago Blackhawks scout, Bill Tobin, discovered the talented defenseman and offered him a contract. After only 12 games in the minors, Gadsby made it to the NHL at the age of 18. In his debut game, he got a cut to the face that took 12 stitches to close. Gadsby was a solid defenseman, playing for the Blackhawks until 1954 when he was traded to the New York Rangers. During his tenure with the Rangers, Gadsby was elected to 4 All-Star Games and in 1957-1958, he set a defense record for 46 assists. Bill Gadsby played for the Detroit Red Wings, hopeful that he would finally capture a Stanley Cup win. Gadsby reached several milestones while in Detroit: first defenceman to reach 500 points, and his 20th NHL season. Gadsby did reach the Stanley Cup finals in 1964, only to lose to the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 7. Bill Gadsby was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1970 and he continues to be an honoured member of the Detroit Red Wings Alumni Association. Alex Delvecchio Detroit Red Wings Signed Original Six 8x10 Photo This hand signed 8x10 photo has been personally autographed by Alex Delvecchio. Learn More about Alex Delvecchio: Alex Delvecchio was an NHL center and left winger that played his entire 24 season career with the Detroit Red Wings. He began his playing career in 1950 and in the 1951-52 season became a full-time team member, winning the Stanley Cup in his rookie season. He was part of the high scoring Production Line with Gordie Howe and Ted Lindsay. He won his second and third Stanley Cup in 1954 and 1955. Although Alex Delvecchio was a top goal scorer and gifted playmaker, he was best known as a classy player and true gentleman. He was a three time recipient of the Lady Byng Trophy for sportsmanlike conduct. He was well liked by his teammates which led to him being named captain of the Red Wings from 1962 until he retired as a player in 1974. At the conclusion of his career, he had played 1549 regular season games with 456 goals, 825 assists and 1281 points. His number 10 was retired by the Red Wings and he was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1977. Following his retirement as a player, Alex Delvecchio remained with the Detroit Red Wings as head coach and general manager from 1973-1977. In January, 2017, Delvecchio was part of the first group of players to be named one of the '100 Greatest NHL Players' in history. He joined the Montreal Canadiens full-time in 1958 for the tail end of their five-cup dynasty winning two Stanley Cups in 1959 and 1960. He played in two All-Star Games before being traded to the New York Rangers in 1961. He was traded late in the 1963-1964 season where he helped the Detroit Red Wings reach the Stanley Cup Finals. In 1965-1966, he played one last season in the NHL with the Boston Bruins. His final season of professional hockey was spent with the WHL’s Los Angeles Blades. Learn More about Adam Oates: Adam Oates was an NHL center and elite playmaker that was active in the NHL from 1985-2004. He played for several teams throughout his hockey career including the Detroit Red Wings, St. Louis Blues, Boston Bruins, Washington Capitals, Philadelphia Flyers, the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and the Edmonton Oilers. Adam Oates was a first-line centre with the St. Louis Blues playing alongside superstar Brent Hull. The duo dubbed “Hull and Oates” put up prolific numbers in their two and a half seasons together with Hull scoring 86 goals one season and Oates with 115 points. Adam Oates is the only person in NHL history to centre 50 goals scorers with him assisting Hull, Cam Neely and Peter Bondra. Not only was Oates great at setting goals into motion with a career total of 1079 assists at the time of his retirement (5th in the league). He was also a consistent goal scorer himself reaching the 20-goal mark five times with a career high 45 goals. Although Adam Oates never won a Stanley Cup Championship throughout his 19 year career in the NHL, he did lead the Washington Capitals to their first Stanley Cup Finals in franchise history in 1998. His outstanding hockey achievements were recognized in 2012 when he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame alongside Pavel Bure, Joe Sakic and Mats Sundin.
