Perreault played with the Sabres from their inaugural season leading the team in scoring with 38 goals and 34 assists to win the Calder Trophy for Rookie of the Year. Known as one of the most gifted playmakers of all time, Perreault was the center of the high scoring “French Connection” line, with wingers Rick Martin and Rene Roberts. The exciting trio were the top three goal scorers for the Sabres as well as top 10 overall in the NHL. Gilbert Perreault was not only a gifted stickhandler but a gentleman on the ice, winning the Lady Byng Trophy in 1973. Kelly was a versatile player that not only had great checking skills, he also had great offensive ability that allowed him to quickly get the puck down the ice. Kelly was a great asset to the Red Wings, in his 12 years with the organization they won 8 regular season championships, four Stanley Cups and was chosen First Team All-Star defenceman six times. He won the James Norris Memorial Trophy for NHL top defenceman and 3 Lady Byng Trophies for the NHL’s most gentlemanly player. After an ankle injury, Red Kelly was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Red Kelly became full-time center for the Maple Leafs to play him against Montreal’s Jean Beliveau. Playing alongside goal scorer Frank Mahovlich, the Toronto Maple Leafs won 4 Stanley Cups in Kelly’s 8 seasons on the team. Red Kelly decided to retire on a high note, ending his playing career after winning his eighth Stanley Cup in 1967. Red Kelly continued his career in the NHL as coach of new expansion team, the Los Angeles Kings. Despite being a rookie coach, Kelly’s team made the playoffs two years in a row. He was first drafted by the Rangers in 1981 but played for their minor affiliate the Tulsa Oilers. Vanbiesbrouck’s first official season with the Rangers was 1984-85. That year Vanbiesbrouck won a Vezina Trophy and was a First Team All-Star the next season. In 1993, Vanbiesbrouck was traded to the Florida Panthers and was a huge factor in the Panthers winning the Stanley Cup in 1996. While with Florida, Vanbiesbrouck recorded his 300th career victory, becoming the fifteenth goalie to do so and the second American goalie. Vanbiesbrouck also played on an international level with the United States many times. He played in the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships in 1982 and played at four IIHF World Championships. Vanbiesbrouck also played in two Canada Cups. After his career, Vanbiesbrouck took over as the manager and head coach of the Greyhounds and in 2013 became the general manager of the United States Hockey League's Muskegon Lumberjacks. Learn More about Bernie Parent: Bernie Parent was an NHL goaltender that played 13 seasons from 1965-1979 for the Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs and the Philadelphia Flyers. Parent played just 39 games with the Bruins before he was dealt to the Philadelphia Flyers where he would emerge as top goaltender. Although Parent was a top netminder, the Flyers seeking more offense, traded Parent to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The trade proved beneficial to Parent as he got to share goaltender duties with his childhood hero Jacques Plante. Under Plante’s guidance, Parent became a better and more proficient goalie as he perfected the “stand-up style” he modeled after Plante. Bernie Parent left the Leafs to join the WHA and returned to the Philadelphia Flyers after just one season. His next two years in Philly proved to be the best of his career. He won back to back Stanley Cups in 1974 and 1975 along with the Vezina Trophy for best goaltender and the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP in both seasons. Sadly, Bernie Parent’s career was cut short in 1979 when he took a stick to his right eye causing temporary blindness. Although his vision returned, there was permanent damage to his eye forcing his retirement. Parent remained with the Flyers for a number of years as goaltending coach. Learn More about Johnny Bucyk: Johnny Bucyk was an NHL left winger whose career spanned 23 years from 1955-1978 mostly with the Boston Bruins. His first two years in the NHL were played with the Detroit Red Wings before a trade for Terry Sawchuk landed Bucyk in a Bruins uniform in 1957. He became part of the Uke Line with fellow Canadian-Ukranian born players Vic Stasiuk and Bronco Horvath who were his linemates on the Junior Edmonton Oil Kings. Johnny Bucyk set numerous records with the Bruins although some have since been surpassed by Ray Bourque including most seasons, most games, goals, assists and points. Bucyk ended his career as the 4th leading goal scorer in NHL history at the time with 545 goals. He appeared in seven All-Star Games and was the recipient of the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy for Sportsmanship and the Lester B. Pearson Award for his contribution to hockey. His name appears twice on the Stanley Cup as a player in 1970 and 1972. His number 9 was retired by the Boston Bruins and he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1981.
