Learn More about Zdeno Chara: Zdeno Chara is an NHL defenseman and current captain of the Boston Bruins.  Chara emigrated to North America from his native Slovakia at the age of 19 with one year remaining in junior eligibility to learn how to play hockey here with a smaller ice surface.  He was drafted by the New York Islanders in the 1996 Entry Draft and began playing on the team in the 1997-1998 season.
