He was a goaltender that played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, Minnesota North Stars and the Vancouver Canucks. Maniago was originally drafted by Toronto in 1960. He played seven games for the Leafs in the 1960-1961 season. He was picked by the Montreal Canadiens the following season. The high point of his time with Montreal would be a 14-game stint in the relief of the ailing Jaques Plante in 1963. Maniago had a good season with the Minneapolis Bruins of the CHL in 1965, winning the league's MVP award. After that he was traded to the Rangers. In 1966, Maniago competed for the starter goalie and was also given a questionable distinction by allowing Bobby Hull to score his 51st goal that year as Hull was the first in history to do so. In 1967, Maniago was the expanding Minnesota North Stars first pick for a goaltender. Due to Maniago’s play the North Stars were led to the playoffs five out of six of their first seasons however at the end Minnesota struggled. They tried to find a suitable goalie to help Maniago before taking Gump Worsley out of retirement in 1970. After 1974, Minnesota's fortune sagged as Worsley retired and Maniago was traded to the Canucks where he played two seasons before retirement. Pat LaFontaine was selected 3rd overall by the New York Islanders in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft. After representing Team USA in the 1984 Olympic Winter Games, LaFontaine made it back to the NHL in time to join the Islanders in the Stanley Cup Finals. The 1987-1988 season was the first of six 40 plus point seasons for Lafontaine. In the 1987 Stanley Cup division finals, LaFontaine scored the game winning goal in the 4th period of overtime against the Washington Capitals in game seven that was dubbed the “Easter Epic”. LaFontaine was traded to the Buffalo Sabres in October 1991 and during his second season with the Sabres, set a team record with 148 points. The potential hockey superstar suffered several career setbacks including concussions, a broken jaw and an injured knee. He was awarded the Bill Masterson Trophy at the end of the 1995 season for his determination and perseverance. He was traded to the New York Rangers but a series of concussions only saw Pat Lafontaine appear in 62 games. He retired at the end of the season with 468 goals and 1013 points. The Sabres retired his number 16 in 2006 and LaFontaine was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2003. He began his career coaching at the varsity and junior levels in 1977. He led the Oshawa Legionaries to back to back championships in 1979 and 1980. Mike Keenan moved on to coaching the Rochester Americans to the AHL championship in 1983. The following year, Keenan got his first high profile coaching job, coaching the Philadelphia Flyers in 1984. He was with the Flyers for 4 years before becoming head coach of the Chicago Blackhawks in 1988 and head coach of the New York Rangers in 1993. In 1994, he led the Rangers to their first Stanley Cup Championship since 1940. Mike Keenan also was coach and/or GM for the St. Louis Blues, Vancouver Canucks, Boston Bruins and the Florida Panthers. In 2007 Keenan became senior advisor to the Swedish Ice Hockey Association. This position was short lived as he returned to the NHL to coach the Calgary Flames. Keenan recorded his 600th win as a coach with the Flames. Keenan left the NHL to join the KHL in 2013.
