Learn More about Joel Otto: Joel Otto was a two way center that spent 14 seasons in the NHL with the Calgary Flames and the Philadelphia Flyers. Although he went undrafted, Joel Otto proved to be a talented player, twice nominated for the Frank J. Selke Trophy for best defensive center. He was frequently used to shut down the opposing team’s top line and best known for opposing Oilers’ center Mark Messier in the Battle of Alberta. Joel Otto was also a member of the 1989 Calgary Flames Stanley Cup Championship team. After 11 seasons with the Flames, Joel Otto signed with the Philadelphia Flyers where he played for 3 seasons. He helped the Flyers reach the 1997 Stanley Cup Finals where they lost to the Detroit Red Wings. He announced his retirement shortly after. Internationally, Joel Otto represented Team USA, appearing in two World Ice Hockey Championships (1985, 1990); the Canada Cup (1987, 1991 as Captain); the 1996 World Cup Championships and the 1998 Winter Olympic Games. Learn More about Al MacInnis: Al MacInnis was a legendary defenseman that was best known for super hard slapshots. MacInnis was drafted in the first round, 15th overall by the Calgary Flames in 1981. He went on to play 23 seasons in the NHL, with the Calgary Flames and the St. Louis Blues. He was a 13 time All-Star and 7-time winner of the All-Star games’ Hardest Shot competition. MacInnis played an instrumental role in his teams’ 1989 Stanley Cup Championship and was the recipient of the Conn Smythe Trophy for playoff MVP. He left the Flames after 11 seasons and was the leader in scoring with 822 points, 603 assists and 803 games played. Al MacInnis was traded to the St. Louis Blues where he continued to excel as a high scoring defenseman. He was awarded the James Norris Memorial Trophy as the leagues’ best defenseman in 1999. Unfortunately, MacInnis’ career was cut short due to a series of eye injuries that led him to retire in 2005. Ending his career with 1,274 points, MacInnis ranked third all-time in goals, assists and points amongst defensemen. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2007 and his number was retired by the Blues and raised to the rafters by the Flames. Following his retirement as a player, Al MacInnis remained with the Blues organization and serviced as Vice-President of Hockey Operations. Learn More about Bill Ranford: Bill Ranford was an NHL goaltender that began his career with the Boston Bruins as their second round draft pick. Despite some solid performances with the Bruins, Ranford didn’t get the chance to shine until he was traded to the Edmonton Oilers in late 1988. Bill Ranford backed up starting goaltender Grant Fuhr and helped lead the Oilers to the 1988 Stanley Cup Championship. The following season, Ranford was again backup for Fuhr but a serious injury left top spot open for Billy Ranford. Ranford proved himself to be a superstar for the Oilers, leading them to their second Stanley Cup Championship in 1990 against his old team, the Boston Bruins. Ranford was the unanimous choice for the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP. Bill Ranford joined Team Canada in 1991 as the starting goalie in the Canada Cup Series. They went undefeated and Ranford was picked as MVP. He was also chosen as the starting goalie in the 1993 and 1994 World Championship where they won gold the second year. Ranford was traded back to Boston and later played for the Washington Capitals, Detroit Red Wings and back to Edmonton where he ended his career. Bill Ranford is currently the goaltending coach for the LA Kings, a position he’s held since 2006. He had his name added to the Cup a third and fourth time as a coach in 2012 and 2014.
