Learn More about Gump Worsley: Lorne John Worsley, better known as Gump Worsley was a goaltender in the NHL who played 21 seasons. Worsley played in the minor leagues for 4 years and didn't enter the NHL until he was 24 years old. He won the Calder Memorial trophy and was the Rookie of the Year, in 1952, when he joined the NHL and played for the New York Rangers.  In 1954 he was traded to the Vancouver Canucks of the WHL where he won Most Valuable Player.  In 1954, he returned to the New York Rangers as a starting goaltender beating out future star Johnny Bower for the top spot.  Gump Worsley spent nine seasons with the New York Rangers before being traded to the Montreal Canadiens in 1963. Gump Worsley's best years were spent with the Montreal Canadiens where he was a part of four Stanley Cup winning teams in 1965, 1966, 1968 and 1969.  In 1968, Worsley went undefeated in the playoffs with 11 straight wins.  Worsley retired in the middle of 1969-1970 due to the team's travel schedule and his fear of flying. Worsley was coaxed out of retirement by the Minnesota North Stars due to their less demanding travel schedule and their sweetened deal of a $500 bonus per win, and $250 per tie and $100 per shutout.  Worsley spent four more years in the NHL before retiring at age 44.  He was one of the last players to adopt the hockey mask.  Upon his retirement, Gump Worsley was third among all NHL goaltenders in games played.  He retired with a record of 335 wins, 352 losses, and 150 ties, with 43 shutouts, and goals against average of 2.91.  Gump Worsley was added to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1980.  Sadly, Gump Worsley passed away from a heart attack in 2007. Learn More about Don Cherry: Don Cherry is best known as the very outspoken commentator on the Coaches Corner segment of Hockey Night in Canada.  He began his hockey journey as a player in the OHL and later moved on to the minor American Hockey League’s Hershey Bears.  He spent 20 years playing in the minors with only one call up to the Boston Bruins where he played in one playoff game in 1955.  He retired as a player but returned to the Rochester Americans a couple of years later.  Midway through the season, he began coaching the club and was awarded Coach of the Year in 1972. Having success in the minors, Don Cherry became head coach of the Boston Bruins in 1974.  He was an eccentric, flamboyant coach that encouraged the physical part of hockey and the team under Cherry’s leadership became known as “the Big Bad Bruins.”  He led the team to four straight division championships and in 1976 won the Jack Adams Award for coach of the year.  He was also coach of Team Canada during the 1976 Canada Cup. He became a broadcaster in 1980 and he began his tell-it-like-it-is segment Coaches Corner, during the first intermission of hockey games.  Don Cherry is a strong support of tough “Canadian” type hockey that encourages fighting and physical play.  Cherry had his own video series, Don Cherry’s Rock Em’, Sock Em Hockey that included hockey highlights and his trademark banter.  He is also owner of a successful chain of restaurants as well as owner of the Mississauga Ice Dogs. • Ron Hextall Philadelphia Flyers Autographed Hockey Puck with 87 Vezina Note This hand signed Ron Hextall Philadelphia Flyers Autographed Hockey Puck has been personally autographed by Mr. Hextall.  Included with your purchase is a Certificate of Authenticity from Slap Shot Signatures. Learn More about Ron Hextall: Ron Hextall was an NHL goaltender that was active in the NHL from 1984-1999, playing for the Philadelphia Flyers, Quebec Nordiques and the New York Islanders.  Hextall is a third generation NHL player-the grandson of Hall of Famer Bryan Hextall (NY Rangers) and son of Bryan Hextall Jr. who played in the NHL for 10 seasons, mainly for the Pittsburgh Penguins.  His uncle, Dennis Hextall spent 14 seasons in the NHL. Ron Hextall brought a new style of goaltending to the NHL because he liked to come out of the net and play the puck, lending support to his team’s defensemen.  Hextall was also a very aggressive goalie which lead to three suspensions of 6 or more games throughout his career.  He had more than 100 penalty minute in each of his first three seasons and set NHL records for penalty minutes by a goaltender.  Hextall was an excellent stick handler and became the first NHL goalie to score a goal, not once but twice, once against the Bruins on an empty net and again against the Capitals. Ron Hextall played his first four NHL seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers.  A combination of injures and suspensions let Hextall to be traded to the Quebec Nordiques in 1992 as part of the Eric Lindros trade when Lindros refused to play for the Nordiques who drafted him first overall in the 1991 Entry Draft.  Hextall helped the Nordiques reach the playoffs and was again traded the following season to the New York Islander where he played one season before being sent back to the Flyers.  Hextall helped the Flyers to the 1997 Stanley Cup Finals.  At the end of the 1998-1998 season, Hextall was waived by the Flyers and went undrafted in the expansion draft.  He announced his retirement on September 6, 1999. After his retirement as a player, Ron Hextall became a Flyers scout and eventually worked his way up to General Manger of the Philadelphia Flyers in 2014.
