Learn More about Brian Bellows: Brian Bellows was a hot young prospect drafted 2nd overall into the NHL by the Minnesota North Stars in 1982. He was compared to superstar Wayne Gretzky which led to a tough rookie season for the young winger. Half way through the season, Bellows vastly improved leading him to finish the season with 35 goals. In 1983, he was named interim captain for the North Stars making him the youngest captain at the time at 19 years and 4 month. Brian Bellows spent 10 seasons with the North Stars as a leading goal scorer and fan favorite. He was also known for his heavy commitment to charity work and was involved with many different causes including the Special Olympics, MADD and raising drug awareness. In a shocking trade, Brian Bellows joined the Montreal Canadiens in 1992. He had a successful season with the Habs that included 88 points (second highest in his career), and 15 playoff points that helped the Canadiens bring home the 1993 Stanley Cup. Bellows also played for the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Anaheim Ducks and the Washington Capitals. He ended his playing career in 1999 after become the 54th person in the NHL to score 1000 points in just over 1000 NHL games. Craig Berube went undrafted and signed with the Philadelphia Flyers as a free agent. Berube made his NHL debut in 1987 leading up to the Flyers playoff run. In the playoffs, the North Stars went all the way to the finals with Ciccarelli contributing 14 goals and 21 points in 19 games. His solid performance earned him a spot on the North Stars and he built on his rookie success with a team high 55 goals and 106 points in his sophomore season. He left Minnesota in March of 1989 in a trade to the Washington Capitals. He had 651 points with the North Stars, 4th in club history. Dino Ciccarelli spent the rest of his career with shorter stints with the Washington Capitals, the Detroit Red Wings, the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Florida Panthers. His gritty “in-your-face” style of hockey helped inspire his team and provided a veteran presence with his later teams. Upon his retirement in 1999, Ciccarelli had played in 1232 regular season games with 608 goals and 592 assists for 1200 points. He was ranked ninth in scoring in NHL history. He played right wing in the NHL for the Washington Capitals, Minnesota North Stars, New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs and the Phoenix Coyotes. With these teams Gartner played a total of 19 seasons. Gartner was originally drafted by the Washington Capitals in 1979 and made his debut that year in October against the Buffalo Sabres. 1979-1980 was a solid season for Gartner. When Gartner was traded in 1989, he left Washington as the all-time leader in career goals, assists and points. As of 2017, Gartner is third in goals and points and fourth in assists. Despite Gartner being a skillful player, he only lasted one season with Minnesota before he was traded to the Rangers. Gartner scored 11 goals and 16 points in the remaining 12 regular season games. The next season, 1990-1991, Gartner became the first player to reach his 500th goal, 500th assist and 100th point all in one season. The next season he became the first Ranger to score at least 40 goals in 3 consecutive seasons. Gartner was traded again in 1993-1994 to the Leafs. He played with them until 1996 when he was traded to the Coyotes before he retired, two seasons later. Kölzig spent almost his entire 14-year career playing for the Washington Capitals. He played eight games with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Kölzig was originally drafted by the Washington Capitals in 1989. He played his first game that season but after that he was bumped down to the minor leagues. Kölzig played with the Baltimore Skipjacks, Rochester Americans and Portland Pirates of the AHL. Olaf Kölzig also spent one year with the Hampton Roads Admiral of the East Coast Hockey League. When he was playing with the Portland Pirates Kölzig was awarded with the Jack A. Butterfield Trophy and the Hap Holmes Memorial Award. In 1995-96, the Capitals recalled him as their back-up for Jim Carey. In 1996-97, the Capitals acquired Bill Ranford and Kölzig stayed as a back-up goaltender. In early 1997 Ranford suffered an injury and Kölzig took over doing quite well, playing 33 games with a 2.20 goals against average. In 2000 Kölzig won the Vezina Trophy. Kölzig played with the Capitals until 2008 when he signed a contract with Tampa Bay. Kölzig got injured and he could not play through the entire season. In 2009 Kölzig announced his retirement.
