He was first drafted by the Rangers in 1981 but played for their minor affiliate the Tulsa Oilers. Vanbiesbrouck’s first official season with the Rangers was 1984-85. That year Vanbiesbrouck won a Vezina Trophy and was a First Team All-Star the next season. In 1993, Vanbiesbrouck was traded to the Florida Panthers and was a huge factor in the Panthers winning the Stanley Cup in 1996. While with Florida, Vanbiesbrouck recorded his 300th career victory, becoming the fifteenth goalie to do so and the second American goalie. Vanbiesbrouck also played on an international level with the United States many times. He played in the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships in 1982 and played at four IIHF World Championships. He helped the Flyers reach the 1997 Stanley Cup Finals where they lost to the Detroit Red Wings. He announced his retirement shortly after.
