Learn More About Anze Kopitar: Anze Kopitar became the first Slovenian player to enter the NHL when he was drafted in 2005 as the 11th overall pick.  He made his NHL debut in 2006 as a center for the Los Angeles Kings, where he scored two goals in his first game against the Anaheim Duck.  He played alongside Patrick Sullivan and Dustin Brown as the youngest but the most effective line for the Kings as they rebuilt their franchise.  Kopitar finished third in scoring among rookies in his first NHL season with 20 goals and 41 assists for 61points, behind Evgeni Malkin and Paul Stastny.  He finished fourth in voting for rookie of the year, Calder Memorial Trophy. Anze Kopitar, a formidable offensive player honed his defensive skills to make him one of the most consistent and effective two-way centres in the game.  In the 2011-12 season, Kopitar led the Kings in scoring with 76 points. He shined in the playoffs that year, tied with captain Dustin Brown in playoff scoring, each with 20 points.  The Kings won the Stanley Cup, the first title in Kings’ history and Anze Kopitar became the first Slovenian born player to win the Stanley Cup.  Two years later, the Kings won a second Stanley Cup Championship. Anze Kopitar International Play Anze Kopitar comes from a hockey family, the son of Matjaz Kopitar who played for Slovenia in 3 World Championships.  He has been head coach of the Slovenian National Ice Hockey team since 2010.  Following in his father’s footsteps, Kopitar also played in the Slovenia Ice Hockey League at both the junior and senior levels.  A natural talent, Kopitar, moved to Sweden at age 16 to play in a more competitive league and improve his career prospects.  Anze Kopitar represented the Slovenian National team at both the junior and senior levels.
