Learn More About Ted Lindsay: Ted Lindsay was a professional ice hockey player who played forward for the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks.  He was a fierce competitor that earned the nickname “Terrible Ted” because of his rough and tough style of play, causing the NHL to create new penalties such as elbowing.  Despite his time spent in the penalty box, Ted Lindsay was a great player who scored over 800 points during his Hall of Fame career.  Lindsay also won four Stanley cups with the Detroit Red Wings and was named in the first group of NHL's 100 greatest Players in 2017. Ted Lindsay’s first season was in 1944 when he was 19.  He first played for Detroit and was part of the high scoring “Production Line” with Sid Abel and superstar Gordie Howe.  In the 1949-1950 season, Lindsay won the Art Ross Trophy for leading the league in points during the regular and played a large role in his team winning the Stanley Cup.  In the late 1950s Lindsay also helped organize the National Hockey League Players Association (NHLPA).  This was a huge factor to Ted Lindsay being traded to the Blackhawks.  Lindsay played three seasons with the Blackhawks but wanted to retire a Red Wing so his last season in 1964-65 he played for Detroit. Ted Lindsay was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1966 and Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 2002.  Also, Ted Lindsay's #7 was retired by the Detroit Red Wings in 1991. Vernon started his career in the minor Calgary hockey system. After a strong rookie season, he was chosen by the Calgary Flames in the 1981 NHL draft. The Flames left Vernon in junior hockey during the 1981-1982 season and he earned selection to the WHL All-Star team.  In 1982-1983 he spent most of his time with the CHL's Colorado Flames.  In 1984, he returned to the Calgary Flames but suffered a loss and returned to the CHL.  Vernon won a Stanley Cup with the Flames in 1989.  In 1994 Vernon was traded to the Detroit Red Wings. Detroit thought that Vernon would help teach their younger goaltender Chris Osgood, and was Detroit's best goaltender in 1994-1995.  In 1995 Vernon helped Detroit get the President Trophy.  Also in 1995 Detroit got to the Stanley Cup finals but lost to the New Jersey Devils. Osgood began to get better as the Detroit goaltender and became their primary goalie in 1995-1996.  Vernon and Osgood shared the William M. Jenning Trophy. Detroit traded Vernon to the San Hose Sharks in 1997.  Vernon played two full seasons with the Sharks but was traded in 1999 to the Florida Panthers.  He played 34 games with this team but was soon traded back to the Flames.  He played a few seasons with the Flames and was named one of the best goaltenders in that era. Learn More about Kirk Muller: Kirk Muller was an NHL center that played for 19 seasons.  He was drafted second overall in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft after superstar Mario Lemieux.  Muller was an enthusiastic athlete that put his heart and soul into every game and excelled at the physical play, forechecking and fishing the puck out of the corners.  He was a natural leader and was named Captain Kirk by the New Jersey Devils.  In 1991, Kirk Muller was traded to the Montreal Canadiens where he quickly became a fan favourite, helping the Habs win the Stanley Cup in 1993.  His time in Montreal was short-lived when he was traded to the New York Islanders during the 1994-1995 season. Kirk Muller made it well known that he did not want to play for the Islanders.  He reluctantly reported to and played in a handful of games before he walked out on the team, forcing a trade.  He was dealt to the Toronto Maple Leafs where he was reunited with his former Habs’ coach Pat Burns.  Muller didn’t produce for the Leafs as expected as he was slowing with age.  He was traded to the Florida Panthers where he became a leader in the dressing room, more so than on the ice where his offensive production was all but gone.  Muller struggled in Florida and was traded to the Dallas Stars in the middle of the 1999-2000 season.  He became part of the “Grumpy Old Men” line with Mike Keane and John MacLean.  After 4 seasons in Dallas, Muller retired at the end of the 2002-2003 season. Following his retirement as a player, Muller returned to the Habs as an assistant coach from 2006 to 2011.  He was a coach of the Carolina Hurricanes from 2011-2014 and assistant coach of the St. Louis Blues from2014-2016.  He is currently an associate coach of the Montreal Canadiens. Sadly, Neely’s career was cut short due to repeated knee injuries and a degenerative hip condition at the age of 31.  However,  he did have some remarkable scoring achievements.  Only Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Brett Hull scored a better goals per game average over the course of a season.  He reached the 50 goal mark 3 times and played in 5 All-Star Games.  His intense effort to return to the NHL despite the injuries earned him a Masterson Trophy and the Boston Bruins honored him by raising his number 8 to the rafters on January 12, 2004.
