Learn More about Joel Otto: Joel Otto was a two way center that spent 14 seasons in the NHL with the Calgary Flames and the Philadelphia Flyers. Although he went undrafted, Joel Otto proved to be a talented player, twice nominated for the Frank J. Selke Trophy for best defensive center. He was frequently used to shut down the opposing team’s top line and best known for opposing Oilers’ center Mark Messier in the Battle of Alberta. Joel Otto was also a member of the 1989 Calgary Flames Stanley Cup Championship team. After 11 seasons with the Flames, Joel Otto signed with the Philadelphia Flyers where he played for 3 seasons. He helped the Flyers reach the 1997 Stanley Cup Finals where they lost to the Detroit Red Wings. He announced his retirement shortly after. Internationally, Joel Otto represented Team USA, appearing in two World Ice Hockey Championships (1985, 1990); the Canada Cup (1987, 1991 as Captain); the 1996 World Cup Championships and the 1998 Winter Olympic Games.
