    Patrick Roy was born in Quebec City and went on to be drafted by the Montreal Canadiens. While playing in Montreal, Roy helped his team to two Stanley Cup Championships. Roy began his professional career with the Sherbrooke Canadiens of the American Hockey League. Roy was drafter 51st overall in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft and made his NHL debut on February 23, 1985. The next season Roy played 47 games during the regular season and at 20-years-old he won the Conn Smythe trophy. Patrick Roy is also an 11 time NHL All-Star. Patrick Roy is the only player in NHL history to win the Conn Smythe trophy three times, for two different teams and in different decades. In 2004, Patrick Roy was selected as the greatest goaltender in NHL history by a panel of 41 writers, coupled with a simultaneous fan poll. On November 13, 2006, Roy was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility.  Patrick Roy's number 33 jersey is retired by both the Canadiens on November 22, 2008 and the Avalanche on October 28, 2003. Patrick Roy has been the head coach of the Avalanche since the 2013-14 season, winning the Jack Adams Award as the NHL's best coach in his inaugural NHL coaching season.
