Learn More about Mike Keenan: Mike Keenan is a long time professional hockey coach that has served several leagues and teams in the NHL. He began his career coaching at the varsity and junior levels in 1977. He led the Oshawa Legionaries to back to back championships in 1979 and 1980. Mike Keenan moved on to coaching the Rochester Americans to the AHL championship in 1983. The following year, Keenan got his first high profile coaching job, coaching the Philadelphia Flyers in 1984. He was with the Flyers for 4 years before becoming head coach of the Chicago Blackhawks in 1988 and head coach of the New York Rangers in 1993. In 1994, he led the Rangers to their first Stanley Cup Championship since 1940. Mike Keenan also was coach and/or GM for the St. Louis Blues, Vancouver Canucks, Boston Bruins and the Florida Panthers. In 2007 Keenan became senior advisor to the Swedish Ice Hockey Association. This position was short lived as he returned to the NHL to coach the Calgary Flames. Keenan recorded his 600th win as a coach with the Flames. Keenan left the NHL to join the KHL in 2013. He was a goaltender that played for the New Jersey Devils, Vancouver Canucks, Carolina Hurricanes, Florida Panthers and the New York Rangers. Kirk McLean was originally drafted by the New Jersey Devils in 1984. He debuted with the Devils in 1985-1986 before being called to Oshawa. McLean had to compete with many for ice time so he was sent to their AHL affiliate, the Maine Mariners. He was called up from Maine in 1986 and allowed only one goal of 24 shots into the net, letting the Devils win the game. He played a few more games with them before being traded to the Vancouver Canucks in 1987. With the Canucks, McLean earned his first Vezina Trophy and achieved his first NHL career shutout. In 1991-1992 Mclean earned his next big achievement when he stopped all 45 shots making it his third shutout of the season and the Canucks first against Montreal. In 1994 during a game against the Kings, McLean became a part of history when he let Wayne Gretzky score his 802nd goal making Gretzky the All Time Leading Goal-Scorer. After that, McLean was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes. He played with them for a season before being traded to Florida for two seasons. McLean was traded yet again to the Rangers before retiring. Learn More about Edgar Laprade: Edgar Laprade was a quick skating playmaker that played his entire NHL career with the New York Rangers from 1945-1955. Laprade was known for his determination and strong work ethic and was nicknamed “the Beaver” by his teammates. In his first season with the NHL, Laprade earned 34 points in 49 games and won the Calder Memorial Trophy for rookie of the year. He made four All-Star game appearances throughout his career. Edgar was also a gentleman on the ice going 3 full seasons without a penalty earning the Lady Byng Trophy. Unfortunately, Edgar Laprade never got his name on a Stanley Cup. The closest he got was a heartbreaking game seven defeat in overtime to the Detroit Red Wings in 1950. Laprade hung up his skates in 1955. He was inducted into the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame in 1982 and the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1993. Edgar Laprade passed away in 2014 at the age of 94. In 1987, he was traded to Toronto and in 1990 he was traded again to the Winnipeg Jets. In 1992 he became a member of the New York Rangers where he was part of the 1994 Stanley Cup Championship team. Ed Olczyk played for the Jets a second time, with the Kings and Penguins before ending his career with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2000. Following his playing career Ed Olczyk became a color analyst for the Pittsburgh Penguins. He served as head coach of the Penguins from 2003-2005. He is currently a color commentator for the Chicago Blackhawks . In August 2017, Ed Olczyk was diagnosed with colon cancer and is currently undergoing treatment.
