He is the son of the legendary Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe and brother of Marty Howe. Mark played left wing for the Houston Aeros of the WHA as linemate to his brother Marty and father Gordie who came out of retirement to play alongside his two sons. The Howes led their team to the 1974 and 1975 Avco Cups—the WHA version of the Stanley Cup. Mark also won the Lou Kaplan Trophy as Rookie of the Year. The Howe family moved to the New England Whalers which became the Hartford Whalers when the WHA and NHL merged. The Howes played one more season together in the NHL. He was drafted second overall in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft after superstar Mario Lemieux. Muller was an enthusiastic athlete that put his heart and soul into every game and excelled at the physical play, forechecking and fishing the puck out of the corners. He was a natural leader and was named Captain Kirk by the New Jersey Devils. In 1991, Kirk Muller was traded to the Montreal Canadiens where he quickly became a fan favourite, helping the Habs win the Stanley Cup in 1993. His time in Montreal was short-lived when he was traded to the New York Islanders during the 1994-1995 season. Kirk Muller made it well known that he did not want to play for the Islanders. He reluctantly reported to and played in a handful of games before he walked out on the team, forcing a trade. He was dealt to the Toronto Maple Leafs where he was reunited with his former Habs’ coach Pat Burns. Muller didn’t produce for the Leafs as expected as he was slowing with age. He was traded to the Florida Panthers where he became a leader in the dressing room, more so than on the ice where his offensive production was all but gone. Muller struggled in Florida and was traded to the Dallas Stars in the middle of the 1999-2000 season. He became part of the “Grumpy Old Men” line with Mike Keane and John MacLean. After 4 seasons in Dallas, Muller retired at the end of the 2002-2003 season. Following his retirement as a player, Muller returned to the Habs as an assistant coach from 2006 to 2011. He was a coach of the Carolina Hurricanes from 2011-2014 and assistant coach of the St. Louis Blues from2014-2016. He is currently an associate coach of the Montreal Canadiens. He became part of the Uke Line with fellow Canadian-Ukranian born players Vic Stasiuk and Bronco Horvath who were his linemates on the Junior Edmonton Oil Kings. Although known for his willingness to drop the gloves, John Ferguson was also an effective goal scorer, leading all NHL rookies in scoring in his first season and finishing as runner-up for the Calder Trophy. He was offered a minor league pro contract at the age of 15 that was turned down by his family. He was also offered an NHL “C-form” contract by the general manager of the Montreal Canadiens-a standard contract that would have required Beliveau to join the Canadiens at a set date and salary. Again, his father refused to sign, instead signing a “B-form,” agreeing to play for Montreal if he decided to turn pro. Despite his success in the amateur Quebec Senior Hockey League (QSHL) and two brief appearances for the Canadiens in 1950 and the 1952-53, Beliveau was reluctant to play professionally. Habs GM desperately wanted Beliveau, a leading scorer in the amateur league, to play full-time for the Habs. The Canadiensowners, bought the QSHL and converted it from an amateur to minor pro league, forcing Beliveau to join the Canadiens for the 1953-54 season due to the previously signed “B-form.” Jean Beliveau spent the next 18 seasons with the Canadiens and was a crucial part of their success. Beliveau was a lightning fast skater, talented stickhandler and brilliant playmaker who could also score with his accurate and powerful shots on net. He became an instant fan favorite, all around team player and one of the greatest captains in league history. He played on 10 Stanley Cup winning teams, winning 5 consecutive Cups from 1956-1960. He was team captain for his last 10 seasons, the longest tenure of any captain in club history. Beliveauwas known as a gentleman both on and off the ice, leading by example, he was a mentor to new players and a valued confidant to veterans.
