Sundin continued to improve, establishing himself as a point-per-game player throughout his career. Mats Sundin was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs during the 1994 off season. With the departure of Captain Doug Gilmour, Sundin became the 16th captain of the Maple Leafs and the first European captain in team history.
