He was a goaltender that played for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, Minnesota North Stars and the Vancouver Canucks. Maniago was originally drafted by Toronto in 1960. He played seven games for the Leafs in the 1960-1961 season. He was picked by the Montreal Canadiens the following season. The high point of his time with Montreal would be a 14-game stint in the relief of the ailing Jaques Plante in 1963. Maniago had a good season with the Minneapolis Bruins of the CHL in 1965, winning the league's MVP award. After that he was traded to the Rangers. In 1966, Maniago competed for the starter goalie and was also given a questionable distinction by allowing Bobby Hull to score his 51st goal that year as Hull was the first in history to do so. In 1967, Maniago was the expanding Minnesota North Stars first pick for a goaltender. Due to Maniago’s play the North Stars were led to the playoffs five out of six of their first seasons however at the end Minnesota struggled. They tried to find a suitable goalie to help Maniago before taking Gump Worsley out of retirement in 1970. After 1974, Minnesota's fortune sagged as Worsley retired and Maniago was traded to the Canucks where he played two seasons before retirement. Seiling began his junior career as a winger but became a defenceman when he made the NHL. He played one game in the NHL for the Leafs before being sent down to the minors where he played for 2 different teams over the next couple of seasons before being traded to the New York Rangers where he played for the next decade. He was a good stay at home defenceman. He was claimed by the St. Louis Blues during the expansion draft but the Rangers traded for him the same day to keep him in New York. In 1974, he played for 3 different teams; the Rangers, the Washington Capitals and the Toronto Maple Leafs. He also played for the St. Louis Blues and Atlanta Flames before his retirement in 1979. Rod Seiling also represented Canada in the 1972 Summit Series where he played in three games. After his retirement as a player, Rod Seiling became a junior hockey coach. Learn More About Marcel Pronovost Marcel Pronovost was a professional ice hockey player that played in the NHL from 1949 to 1970. Pronovost played defense for the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs. When Gordie Howe was injured during the 1950 Stanley Cup Championship, Detroit moved up Red Kelly and put Pronovost on defense. Pronovost was a great player and was a member of four Stanley Cup championships with Detroit, his first championship in 1950. Pronovost got his fifth Stanley Cup win with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1967. Marcel Pronovost was considered one of the top defencemen of his era. He was named the alternate captain of the Red Wings by the 1956-57 season. Not only was Marcel Pronovost a great player he was also a coach. He started coaching in 1969. Pronovost was started out coaching the Windsor Spitfires but during the 1972-1973 season, Pronovost was the head coach of the Chicago Cougars in the WHA. Professionally, Pronovost coached 104 games for the Buffalo Sabres and briefly, he was an associate coach of the Red Wings. Ullman started his professional career in 1956 with the Detroit Red Wings. Ullman was known for his stick-handling, his stamina and consistency. He was centering the line with Gordie Howe and Ted Lindsay. Ullman's career statistics place him as one of the greatest centers in NHL history. He had 490 regular season goals, 739 assists and 1229 points. Ullman led the Red Wings in goals in 1961, 1965 and 1966 and led the league in 1964-65. That season Ullman missed the overall scoring by four points. He was second to Stan Mikita. That same season Ullman was voted a first team All-Star. Ullman appeared in 11 All-Star games in his twenty-year career. In 1968, in the middle of his thirteenth year with Detroit, Ullman was traded to the Leafs. Pilote was an outstanding defenseman, winning 3 Norris Trophies and being the runner up another 3 times. Pierre Pilote was paired with teammate Elmer ‘Moose’ Vasko and was one of the best all-time defense pairings. Pilote was a great offensive defenseman, often carrying the puck up the ice. The Hawks had floundered for years prior to Pilote's arrival. But with the likes of Pilote, Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita and Glenn Hall, the Chicago Blackhawks became Stanley Cup champions in 1961. Pilote scored the winning or tying goal in every Blackhawks victory that season. Although 1961 pre-dated the Conn Smythe Trophy, Pierre Pilote was the obvious playoff MVP for the Hawks. His 15 points led all players in the Stanley Cup playoffs that year.. The following season Pierre Pilote became the captain of the Chicago Blackhawks. Pilote retired from hockey in 1969 after one season with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Pierre Pilote's great career was recognized in 1975 when he was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame. He retired having played 890 regular season NHL games, in which he scored 80 goals, 418 assists and 498 points. The Chicago Blackhawks retired the number “3” worn by Pierre Pilote and the late Keith Magnuson in a joint ceremony in 2008.
