Learn More about Al Arbour: Al Arbour was a legendary player, coach and executive in the NHL.  He began his NHL career as a player in 1953 as a defenseman for the Detroit Red Wings, winning his first Stanley Cup in 1954.  He would go on to play for the Chicago Blackhawks winning his second Cup in 1961, and two more with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1962 and 1964.  Arbour subsequently became first captain of the expansion team the St. Louis Blues.  He retired as a player early in the 1970-71 season. Al Arbour began his coaching career with the St. Louis Blues before taking on a young New York Islanders in 1973.  He took the Islanders from dead last in the standing to the Stanley Cup finals in just 2 seasons.  Although the Islanders reached the playoffs and finals in later seasons, it wasn’t until 1980 that they would bring home their first Stanley Cup.  They won 3 more consecutive Stanley Cups, setting a new record for Stanley Cup victories and 19 consecutive playoff series victories.  Arbour would retire from coaching for an executive position in 1986 although he would once again return to the bench in 1989 to once again coach the Islanders.  By the time he retired for good, Al Arbour had coached 1500 games with the same team and won 740 games.  He is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame and the New York Islanders Hall of Fame.     Lanny McDonald is a retired NHL winger that spent 16 seasons playing professional hockey for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Colorado Rockies and the Calgary Flames.  During his career, McDonald scored 500 goals and accumulated over 1000 points.  The offensive forward had 3 consecutive 40 goal seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs before he was traded to the Colorado Rockies in 1979.  The deal was met with fan protests outside Maple Leaf Gardens. Lanny McDonald was named captain of the Rockies where he only played in one full season before he was again traded.  This time he went to his hometown Calgary Flames where he would play for the rest of his career. Playing for the Calgary Flames, Lanny McDonald had some of the best years of his career.  The 1982-83 season saw McDonald battling Wayne Gretzky for top goal scorer in the league.  He finished the season with 66 goals, just 5 goals behind superstar Gretzky’s total of 71.  His 66 goals still stand as highest number of goals in a single season for the Calgary Flames organization.  He received the Bill Masterson Trophy for “perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.”  He ended his career on a high note, winning the Stanley Cup in 1989.  His jersey number 9, was the first to be retired by the Calgary Flames.  As well, Lanny McDonald was the first Calgary Flame to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1992. Learn more about Wendel Clark here: Wendel Clark was selected first overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft and was converted from defenseman to forward.  He quickly became known for his hard hitting  hockey,  refusing to back down to the toughest players in the league.  He racked up 227 PIM during his rookie season and earned himself the nickname Captain Crunch.  Clark was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team and finished third in voting for the Calder Memorial Trophy. Clark spent most of his career in the NHL as a Toronto Maple Leaf, and was named captain of the Leafs for the 1991-92 season.  The following year, Clark led his team into a playoff spot for the first time in 3 years and the Leafs set team records with 44 wins and 99 points.   The Toronto Maple Leafs advanced to the 3rd round against Wayne Gretzky’s Los Angeles Kings with Clark getting a hat trick in Game 6 of the series. Although Wendel Clark was  traded  to the Quebec Noridiques in a multiplayer deal for Mats Sundin, he came back to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs from 1995-1998 and again for his final NHL season in 1999-2000.  On November 22, 2008, the Toronto Maple Leafs honoured their former captain by raising his number 17 to the rafters at the Air Canada Centre.  He was inducted into the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame in 2011. Learn More about Red Kelly: Leonard Patrick “Red” Kelly began his professional hockey career in 1947 playing defense for the Detroit Red Wings.  Kelly was a versatile player that not only had great checking skills, he also had great offensive ability that allowed him to quickly get the puck down the ice.  Kelly was a great asset to the Red Wings, in his 12 years with the organization they won 8 regular season championships, four Stanley Cups and was chosen First Team All-Star defenceman six times.  He won the James Norris Memorial Trophy for NHL top defenceman and 3 Lady Byng Trophies for the NHL’s most gentlemanly player.  After an ankle injury, Red Kelly was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Red Kelly became full-time center for the Maple Leafs to play him against Montreal’s Jean Beliveau.  Playing alongside goal scorer Frank Mahovlich, the Toronto Maple Leafs won 4 Stanley Cups in Kelly’s 8 seasons on the team.  Red Kelly decided to retire on a high note, ending his playing career after winning his eighth Stanley Cup in 1967. Red Kelly continued his career in the NHL as coach of new expansion team, the Los Angeles Kings.  Despite being a rookie coach, Kelly’s team made the playoffs two years in a row.  Kelly also coached the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Toronto Maple Leafs.   Red Kelly was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1969. Included with your purchase is a Certificate of Authenticity from A J Sportsworld.   Learn More about Darryl Sittler Darryl Sittler is a retired NHL Centre who played professional hockey from 1970 until 1985 for the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Philadelphia Flyers and the Detroit Red Wings.  In his first season as captain of the Maple Leafs, he finished the season with 41 goals and 59 assists, the first Leaf ever to reach the one-hundred-point level.  In the Canada Cup that year, he scored the winning goal for Team Canada in overtime.  Sittler also set an NHL record for most points in one game which still stands. Due to a breakdown in communication with ownership and management of the Maple Leafs, Sittler requested to be traded.  In 1982 he was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers where he played one season.  On the same day the Flyers were going to announce Sittler as their captain, he was traded to the Detroit Red Wings. Learn More about Brian Leetch: Brian Leetch played 18 NHL seasons in his career with the New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Boston Bruins.  He is widely regarded as one of the top defensemen in NHL history.  After only one year at Boston College, Leetch played in the 1988 Olympics for the US Olympic hockey team.  Just days later he made his NHL debut with the New York Rangers in February of 1988.  In his first full season, the following year he was awarded the Calder Trophy as well as being chosen for the NHL All-Star Rookie team.  In 1992, Leetch became the only American defenseman, and fifth overall, to score 100 points in a season and was awarded the Norris Trophy.  Two years later, in 1994, the Rangers won both the Presidents' Trophy as well as the Stanley Cup.  Due to his performance in the playoffs, Leetch became the first non-Canadian to win the Conn Smythe Trophy. He served as captain for the American team in the 1996 World Cup of Hockey. Brian Leetch served as captain for the Rangers from 1997-2000.  Leetch was traded to Toronto in 2004 but due to lockout the last year of his contract expired and he became a free agent.  He signed on with Boston for 2005-2006 season and then retired.  He was inducted into the US Ice Hockey Hall of Fame in 2008, in the same year the Rangers retired his number.  The following year he would be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
