Learn More About Kirk McLean: Kirk McLean was a professional ice hockey player in the NHL.  He was a goaltender that played for the New Jersey Devils, Vancouver Canucks, Carolina Hurricanes, Florida Panthers and the New York Rangers. Kirk McLean was originally drafted by the New Jersey Devils in 1984.  He debuted with the Devils in 1985-1986 before being called to Oshawa.  McLean had to compete with many for ice time so he was sent to their AHL affiliate, the Maine Mariners.  He was called up from Maine in 1986 and allowed only one goal of 24 shots into the net, letting the Devils win the game.  He played a few more games with them before being traded to the Vancouver Canucks in 1987. With the Canucks, McLean earned his first Vezina Trophy and achieved his first NHL career shutout.  In 1991-1992 Mclean earned his next big achievement when he stopped all 45 shots making it his third shutout of the season and the Canucks first against Montreal.  In 1994 during a game against the Kings, McLean became a part of history when he let Wayne Gretzky score his 802nd goal making Gretzky the All Time Leading Goal-Scorer. After that, McLean was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes.  He played with them for a season before being traded to Florida for two seasons.  McLean was traded yet again to the Rangers before retiring. Learn More about Edgar Laprade: Edgar Laprade was a quick skating playmaker that played his entire NHL career with the New York Rangers from 1945-1955.  Laprade was known for his determination and strong work ethic and was nicknamed “the Beaver” by his teammates.  In his first season with the NHL, Laprade earned 34 points in 49 games and won the Calder Memorial Trophy for rookie of the year.  He made four All-Star game appearances throughout his career.  Edgar was also a gentleman on the ice going 3 full seasons without a penalty earning the Lady Byng Trophy.  Unfortunately, Edgar Laprade never got his name on a Stanley Cup.  The closest he got was a heartbreaking game seven defeat in overtime to the Detroit Red Wings in 1950.  Laprade hung up his skates in 1955.  He was inducted into the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame in 1982 and the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1993.  Edgar Laprade passed away in 2014 at the age of 94. Learn More about Nick Kypreos: Nick Kypreos was a talented winger that showed great promise to become a leading goal scorer when he finished second in the OHL with 62 goals.  He went undrafted in the NHL and signed as a free agent with the Philadelphia Flyers, although he made his NHL debut with the Washington Capitals.  Kypreos struggled to score at the NHL level but quickly made a name for himself as a rugged enforcer.  In his eight NHL seasons, Kypreos played for the Washington Capitals, Hartford Whalers, New York Rangers and his hometown, Toronto Maple Leafs.  Kypreos spent a lot of time in the penalty box and was at the top of the league in penalty minutes.  A career highlight for Nick Kypreos was winning the 1994 Stanley Cup with the New York Rangers.  He was traded to Toronto where his career came to an abrupt end after a fight with the Rangers’ Ryan VandenBussche.  Kypreos hit the ice face first after being punched unconscious.  He was diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome.  After he retired as a player, Nick Kypreos became a broadcaster and hockey analyst. Learn More About Bob Sauvé: Bob Sauvé was a professional ice hockey player.  A goaltender that played for the Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks and the New Jersey Devils. Sauvé was originally drafted in 1975 by the Buffalo Sabres and was drafted the same year by the Cincinnati Stingers of the WHA but Sauvé’s ambition was to play in the NHL.  The Sabres selected three goaltenders Sauvé being one of the more notable ones.  Sauvé played four games with the Sabres that season but he spent most of his time with the AHL's Rhode Island Reds.  The next few seasons Sauvé split time with the Hershey Bears and the Sabres. In 1978-1979, Sauvé entered training camp determined to make good in the NHL however he suffered some injuries and began the season with Hershey.  Later, he was called up to the Sabres permanently.  Bob Sauvé and Don Edwards made an impact on the Sabres.  In 1979-1980 Sauvé led in goals against average and was the co-recipient of the Vezina Trophy. In 1987, he was traded to Toronto and in 1990 he was traded again to the Winnipeg Jets. In 1992 he became a member of the New York Rangers where he was part of the 1994 Stanley Cup Championship team. Ed Olczyk played for the Jets a second time, with the Kings and Penguins before ending his career with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2000.
