Learn More about Jean Sebastien Giguere: Jean Sebastien Giguere was a goaltender that played from 1997-2014 for teams such as the Hartford Whalers, Calgary Flames, Anaheim Ducks, Toronto Maple Leafs and the Colorado Avalanche. He was drafted in 1995, 13th overall by the Whalers. He made his NHL debut at the end of the 1996-1997 playing in only 9 games. He was traded to the Calgary Flames where he spent 4 seasons mostly with the AHL affiliate team. Giguere began the 2000-01 season with the Mighty Ducks AHL team and was eventually called up as back up goalie which qualified as his rookie season. By 2002-03, Jean Sebastien Giguere posted his first winning season with a career high 8 shut outs helping the Ducks reach the 2003 playoffs. Giguere set an NHL record for most saves by a goaltender in the Ducks’ playoff debut with 63 saves over the Detroit Red Wings. He was the star of the series after they swept the Red Wings in 4 games. He received the Conn Smythe trophy as playoff MVP after going undefeated in 7 overtime games. He went on to win his first Stanley Cup Championship in 2007. Sinden was the youngest coach in the league at age 33 and the team finished with the worst record in the league his first season. Sinden got increasingly better and in the 1969-1970 season, Sinden coached the Bruins to the Stanley Cup Championship, their first in 29 years. Sinden retired from coaching just after the Bruins won the Cup due to his rocky relationship with Bruins management. Although Parent was a top netminder, the Flyers seeking more offense, traded Parent to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The trade proved beneficial to Parent as he got to share goaltender duties with his childhood hero Jacques Plante. Under Plante’s guidance, Parent became a better and more proficient goalie as he perfected the “stand-up style” he modeled after Plante. Bernie Parent left the Leafs to join the WHA and returned to the Philadelphia Flyers after just one season. His next two years in Philly proved to be the best of his career. He won back to back Stanley Cups in 1974 and 1975 along with the Vezina Trophy for best goaltender and the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP in both seasons. Sadly, Bernie Parent’s career was cut short in 1979 when he took a stick to his right eye causing temporary blindness. Although his vision returned, there was permanent damage to his eye forcing his retirement. Parent remained with the Flyers for a number of years as goaltending coach. Middleton had a strong rookie season with the Rangers but at the end of the second season was traded to the Boston Bruins in what sportswriters called one of the most lopsided deals in NHL history. Rick Middleton was traded to Bruins for Ken Hodge, a veteran player. Hodge would only play one season with the Rangers before putting up his skates. Middleton, on the other hand, was a young player at the beginning of his career and would spend the next twelve seasons in a Bruins uniform. Coach Don Cherry helped develop Rick Middleton into a solid two way forward who was strong on both the power play and the penalty kill. Middleton had five straight forty goal and 90 point seasons and finished his tenure in Boston with nearly 900 points as a Bruin. In 1985, Middleton became co-captain of the Bruins wearing the “C” during home games while teammate Ray Bourque captained the team for away games. He set an NHL record for most points in a playoff series with 19 and most assists in a playoff series with 14. His record 105 points in the 1983-1984 season tied Ken Hodges for most points by a right winger for the Boston franchise. He retired from hockey after 1005 regular season games and 988 points. He is the son of the legendary Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe and brother of Marty Howe. Mark played left wing for the Houston Aeros of the WHA as linemate to his brother Marty and father Gordie who came out of retirement to play alongside his two sons. The Howes led their team to the 1974 and 1975 Avco Cups—the WHA version of the Stanley Cup. Mark also won the Lou Kaplan Trophy as Rookie of the Year. The Howe family moved to the New England Whalers which became the Hartford Whalers when the WHA and NHL merged. The Howes played one more season together in the NHL. Mark Howe was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers in 1982 and by then he had become a full-time defenseman. The 1985-1986 season was a career season for Mark where he put up some of the best numbers ever by an NHL defenseman with 24 goals and 58 assists for 82 points.
