He led his team to 5 first place finishes in the regular season and the Stanley Cup Championship in 1997, 1998 and 2002. The 1997 Championship was the first Stanley Cup for Detroit in 42 years. Steve Yzerman won a number of awards during his career including the Lester B. Pearson Award in 1988/89 for Most Outstanding Player, Conn Smythe Trophy for MVP of the Playoffs, and the Selke Trophy for best defensive forward. He was named to 10 All-Star teams including the First Team All-Star in 2000. Yzerman retired sixth for all-time leading scorer in in NHL history. He is first in assists in Red Wings history and second in points and goals.
