Learn More about Bernie Nicholls: Bernie Nicholls was an NHL hockey center from 1981-1999 playing for several teams including the LA Kings, NY Rangers, Edmonton Oilers, NJ Devils, Chicago Blackhawks and the San Jose Sharks. Bernie Nicholls best years were spent with the Los Angeles Kings organization where he was a star forward setting numerous offensive records. His best year was in 1988-89 where he scored 70 goals and 80 assists for a record 150 points. He had an 8 point game, one of only 13 players in the NHL to ever do so. Nicholls was traded in 1989 to the NY Rangers, he left the Kings as the franchise's fifth all-time leading scorer. Bernie Nicholls was selected to three All-Star Games, in 1984, 1989, and 1990. He also won a Silver Medal in the 1985 World Ice Hockey Championships with Team Canada. The Kings won the Stanley Cup, the first title in Kings’ history and Anze Kopitar became the first Slovenian born player to win the Stanley Cup. Two years later, the Kings won a second Stanley Cup Championship. He has been head coach of the Slovenian National Ice Hockey team since 2010. A natural talent, Kopitar, moved to Sweden at age 16 to play in a more competitive league and improve his career prospects.
