Known for his hard hits, Baun played for the Leafs for 11 seasons winning the Stanley Cup in 1962, 1963, 1964 and 1967. Baun is best remembered for his performance in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals in the 1963-64 season. Having broken his ankle earlier in the game, Baun returned in overtime and scored the game winning goal, forcing a game 7 which the Leafs won to clinch their third straight Stanley Cup Championship. During the 1967 Expansion Draft, Bobby Baun was selected by the Oakland Seals. Following a disasterous season with the dead last Seals, Baun requested a trade back to an Original Six team. His request was granted and he played another two seasons with the Detroit Red Wings. Baun was later traded back to the Toronto Maple Leafs for the 1972-1973 season where he only played 5 games before a hit from Mickey Redmond resulted in a career ending neck injury. He was compared to superstar Wayne Gretzky which led to a tough rookie season for the young winger. In 1983, he was named interim captain for the North Stars making him the youngest captain at the time at 19 years and 4 month. Brian Bellows spent 10 seasons with the North Stars as a leading goal scorer and fan favorite. He was also known for his heavy commitment to charity work and was involved with many different causes including the Special Olympics, MADD and raising drug awareness. In a shocking trade, Brian Bellows joined the Montreal Canadiens in 1992. He had a successful season with the Habs that included 88 points (second highest in his career), and 15 playoff points that helped the Canadiens bring home the 1993 Stanley Cup. Bellows also played for the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Anaheim Ducks and the Washington Capitals. He ended his playing career in 1999 after become the 54th person in the NHL to score 1000 points in just over 1000 NHL games. Learn More About Derek Sanderson: Derek Sanderson, also known as "Turk", was tough centre who played in the NHL from 1965-1978. Sanderson first started playing with the Boston Bruins full-time in 1967. Sanderson played in 71 games scoring 24 goals and 49 points along with had 98 PIM. Sanderson was awarded the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL's Rookie of the Year, an award that had been won by teammate Bobby Orr the previous year. In the 1969-1970 season, the Bruins made it to the Stanley Cup Finals. The possible last game of the series went into overtime and Bobby Orr scored the winning goal for the Bruins. People often forget that it was Derek Sanderson who passed Orr the puck for that goal. Sanderson's time with the Bruins made him very popular and in the next two seasons he helped the Bruins finish first in the league and win the Stanley Cup in the 1971-1972 season. Derek Sanderson was offered a multimillion dollar contract by rival league WHA and he went to play for the Philadelphia Blazers. Sanderson was the highest paid athlete in the world at the time with a contract of $2.65 million dollars. However his fast and furious lifestyle was plagued by his battle with addiction. He was unable to remain with any team for very long and had short stints back to Boston, New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues, Vancouver Canucks and Pittsburgh Penguins. Eventually he lost it all and became homeless. With the help of his friend, Phil Esposito, Sanderson was able to get back up on his feet after a stint in rehab. Sanderson now spends his time helping players stay away from what he's been through. He also is an investment specialist at the Boston State Research Company which helps athletes manage their money. He is known for his iconic stitch pattern goal tender mask that was the first custom mask of the era. Every time the mask spared Cheevers from getting stitches, more stitches were added to the mask. Gerry Cheevers was a “flopping style” goaltender that was often down on his knees and relied on his body to block the puck. He often acted as a third defenseman, coming out of the crease to prevent the goal. Gerry Cheevers played for the Boston Bruins during the 1965-1966 season until 1972 and again from 1976 until his retirement in 1980. He was the Bruins number one goalie and led them to two Stanley Cup Championships in 1970 and 1972. Cheevers also went undefeated in 32 games in 1972, an NHL record that still stands today. Gerry Cheevers was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1985. Post retirement, Cheevers had a successful coaching career, as head coach of the Boston Bruins for 5 years. Learn More about Rick Middleton: Rick Middleton was a right winger that played in the NHL from 1974-1988 for the New York Rangers and the Boston Bruins. Middleton had a strong rookie season with the Rangers but at the end of the second season was traded to the Boston Bruins in what sportswriters called one of the most lopsided deals in NHL history. Rick Middleton was traded to Bruins for Ken Hodge, a veteran player. Hodge would only play one season with the Rangers before putting up his skates. Middleton, on the other hand, was a young player at the beginning of his career and would spend the next twelve seasons in a Bruins uniform. Coach Don Cherry helped develop Rick Middleton into a solid two way forward who was strong on both the power play and the penalty kill. Middleton had five straight forty goal and 90 point seasons and finished his tenure in Boston with nearly 900 points as a Bruin. In 1985, Middleton became co-captain of the Bruins wearing the “C” during home games while teammate Ray Bourque captained the team for away games. He set an NHL record for most points in a playoff series with 19 and most assists in a playoff series with 14. His record 105 points in the 1983-1984 season tied Ken Hodges for most points by a right winger for the Boston franchise. He retired from hockey after 1005 regular season games and 988 points. Learn More about Terry O’Reilly: Terry O’Reilly was a tenacious winger that played his entire NHL career with the Boston Bruins from 1971-1985. He was part of the “Lunch Bucket Crew” of the Bruins that were known as grinders and enforcers under Don Cherry’s leadership. O’Reilly was known as a tough player who racked up 200 plus penalty minutes in five consecutive seasons. He was called “Bloody O’Reilly” by the press and was called “Taz” by teammate Phil Esposito for his reckless play reminiscent of the cartoon character the Tasmanian Devil. Although O’Reilly was best known for his physical side of the game, he was also a decent goal scorer with his best season being 1977-1978 where he had 29 goals and 90 points. He captained the Boston Bruins for two years and also appeared in two All-Star games. At the end of his playing career, Terry O’Reilly had accumulated 2095 penalty minutes as well as 606 points in his 13 seasons. After retirement, O’Reilly became an assistant coach and later head coach of the Boston Bruins.
