Learn More about Bill Ranford: Bill Ranford was an NHL goaltender that began his career with the Boston Bruins as their second round draft pick. Despite some solid performances with the Bruins, Ranford didn’t get the chance to shine until he was traded to the Edmonton Oilers in late 1988. Bill Ranford backed up starting goaltender Grant Fuhr and helped lead the Oilers to the 1988 Stanley Cup Championship. The following season, Ranford was again backup for Fuhr but a serious injury left top spot open for Billy Ranford. Ranford proved himself to be a superstar for the Oilers, leading them to their second Stanley Cup Championship in 1990 against his old team, the Boston Bruins. Ranford was the unanimous choice for the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP. Bill Ranford joined Team Canada in 1991 as the starting goalie in the Canada Cup Series. They went undefeated and Ranford was picked as MVP. He was also chosen as the starting goalie in the 1993 and 1994 World Championship where they won gold the second year. Ranford was traded back to Boston and later played for the Washington Capitals, Detroit Red Wings and back to Edmonton where he ended his career. Bill Ranford is currently the goaltending coach for the LA Kings, a position he’s held since 2006. He had his name added to the Cup a third and fourth time as a coach in 2012 and 2014. Muller was an enthusiastic athlete that put his heart and soul into every game and excelled at the physical play, forechecking and fishing the puck out of the corners. He was a natural leader and was named Captain Kirk by the New Jersey Devils. In 1991, Kirk Muller was traded to the Montreal Canadiens where he quickly became a fan favourite, helping the Habs win the Stanley Cup in 1993. His time in Montreal was short-lived when he was traded to the New York Islanders during the 1994-1995 season. Kirk Muller made it well known that he did not want to play for the Islanders. He reluctantly reported to and played in a handful of games before he walked out on the team, forcing a trade. He was dealt to the Toronto Maple Leafs where he was reunited with his former Habs’ coach Pat Burns. Muller didn’t produce for the Leafs as expected as he was slowing with age. He was traded to the Florida Panthers where he became a leader in the dressing room, more so than on the ice where his offensive production was all but gone. Muller struggled in Florida and was traded to the Dallas Stars in the middle of the 1999-2000 season. He became part of the “Grumpy Old Men” line with Mike Keane and John MacLean. After 4 seasons in Dallas, Muller retired at the end of the 2002-2003 season. Following his retirement as a player, Muller returned to the Habs as an assistant coach from 2006 to 2011. He was a coach of the Carolina Hurricanes from 2011-2014 and assistant coach of the St. Louis Blues from2014-2016. He is currently an associate coach of the Montreal Canadiens. He began his career in the WHA playing for the Birmingham Bulls where he collected 58 points. Following the WHA-NHL merger the following year Michel Goulet was eligible for the 1979 Entry Draft where he was chosen 20th overall by his hometown team, the Quebec Nordiques. Michel Goulet was one of the best snipers of the 80s, having 4 consecutive 50 goal seasons. During his 11 seasons as a Nordique, Goulet finished top 10 in scoring and was elected to 5 All-Star Games. Goulet was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks where he would play for another 4 seasons. Sadly, Michel Goulet's career was cut short when a crash into the boards resulted in a severe head injury. Despite, his early retirement as a player, Michel Goulet continued his career in the NHL as a Director of Player Personnel for the Colorado Avalache, winning a Stanley Cup in 1996 and 2001. Sinden was a great defenseman but he never played in the NHL. He played defence for the minor team, Toronto Marlboro Bantams and then in the Ontario Hockey League on the Oshawa Generals from 1949 to 1953. After playing with Oshawa, Sinden played six seasons with the Whitby Dunlops who he captained in 1957 when the Dunlops won the Allan Cup. Also he won a silver medal in the 1960 Olympics as part of the Canadian National Men's Hockey Team. Harry Sinden coached minor league hockey for six seasons starting in 1960 and became head coach of the Boston Bruins in 1966. Sinden was the youngest coach in the league at age 33 and the team finished with the worst record in the league his first season. Sinden got increasingly better and in the 1969-1970 season, Sinden coached the Bruins to the Stanley Cup Championship, their first in 29 years. Sinden retired from coaching just after the Bruins won the Cup due to his rocky relationship with Bruins management. He was named head coach and manager of Team Canada during the 1972 Summit Series despite spending two years away from hockey. After the successful Summit Series, he was offered the position of General Manager of the Bruins—a position he held for 28 years. Sinden remained with the Bruins as President. During his reign, the Boston Bruins had 30 consecutive playoff appearances. Harry Sinden was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1983 as a builder. As a teenager, he suffered serious burns to his hands and feet in a kitchen fire and was told he would never play hockey. Giacomin was even more determined to prove them wrong. He spent six seasons with the minor league Providence Red before becoming the starting goalie for the New York Rangers, an impressive feat considering there were only six starting goalie positions in the NHL at the time. During Giacomin’s second NHL season, he led the NHL in shutouts and helped the Rangers reach the playoffs for only the second time in nine seasons. Eddie Giacomin was the Rangers starting goaltender for nine seasons, leading the league in shutouts for three seasons. He won the Vezina Trophy with partner Gilles Villemure in 1971. In early 1997 Ranford suffered an injury and Kölzig took over doing quite well, playing 33 games with a 2.20 goals against average. In 2000 Kölzig won the Vezina Trophy. Kölzig played with the Capitals until 2008 when he signed a contract with Tampa Bay. Kölzig got injured and he could not play through the entire season. In 2009 Kölzig announced his retirement.
