He was drafted second overall in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft after superstar Mario Lemieux. Muller was an enthusiastic athlete that put his heart and soul into every game and excelled at the physical play, forechecking and fishing the puck out of the corners. He was a natural leader and was named Captain Kirk by the New Jersey Devils. In 1991, Kirk Muller was traded to the Montreal Canadiens where he quickly became a fan favourite, helping the Habs win the Stanley Cup in 1993. His time in Montreal was short-lived when he was traded to the New York Islanders during the 1994-1995 season. Kirk Muller made it well known that he did not want to play for the Islanders. He reluctantly reported to and played in a handful of games before he walked out on the team, forcing a trade. He was dealt to the Toronto Maple Leafs where he was reunited with his former Habs’ coach Pat Burns. Muller didn’t produce for the Leafs as expected as he was slowing with age. He was traded to the Florida Panthers where he became a leader in the dressing room, more so than on the ice where his offensive production was all but gone. Muller struggled in Florida and was traded to the Dallas Stars in the middle of the 1999-2000 season. He became part of the “Grumpy Old Men” line with Mike Keane and John MacLean. After 4 seasons in Dallas, Muller retired at the end of the 2002-2003 season. Following his retirement as a player, Muller returned to the Habs as an assistant coach from 2006 to 2011. He was a coach of the Carolina Hurricanes from 2011-2014 and assistant coach of the St. Louis Blues from2014-2016. He is currently an associate coach of the Montreal Canadiens. He began his NHL career playing for his hometown team, the Montreal Canadiens who drafted him in 1983. He played for the Habs for seven seasons winning his first Cup in 1986. In 1990, Lemieux was dealt to the New Jersey Devils where he shined in the 1995 post season contributing 13 goals to the Devils Stanley Cup Championship winning the Conn Smythe Trophy for playoff MVP. The next season he played for the Colorado Avalanche where he won his third Stanley Cup becoming only the 10th player in the NHL to win back to back Cups with different teams. He was traded back to the Devils in 1999 where he won his final career Stanley Cup. Throughout his career, Claude Lemieux had a reputation as one of the dirtiest players in the league. He antagonized the other team and would do whatever it takes to win a hockey game. It is largely believed that Lemieux sparked the bitter rivalry between the Detroit Red Wings and the Colorado Avalanche during the 1996 playoffs. He checked Kris Draper from behind pushing him head first into the boards leading to a concussion, broken jaw, nose and cheekbones. Tensions rose into the next season between the two teams leading to a bench clearing brawl that culminated in Lemieux being badly beaten by Darren McCarty before officials could remove him. Claude Lemieux retired from the NHL in 2003 although he did attempt a comeback in 2008 where he played for the San Jose Sharks. Despite some solid performances with the Bruins, Ranford didn’t get the chance to shine until he was traded to the Edmonton Oilers in late 1988. Bill Ranford backed up starting goaltender Grant Fuhr and helped lead the Oilers to the 1988 Stanley Cup Championship. The following season, Ranford was again backup for Fuhr but a serious injury left top spot open for Billy Ranford. Ranford proved himself to be a superstar for the Oilers, leading them to their second Stanley Cup Championship in 1990 against his old team, the Boston Bruins. Ranford was the unanimous choice for the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP. Bill Ranford joined Team Canada in 1991 as the starting goalie in the Canada Cup Series. They went undefeated and Ranford was picked as MVP. He was also chosen as the starting goalie in the 1993 and 1994 World Championship where they won gold the second year. Learn More about Mike Peca: Mike Peca was an NHL center that played from 1993 to 2009 with several teams in the league. He was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the 1992 Entry Draft but only played in 37 games with the team before being traded to the Buffalo Sabres for Alexander Mogilny. Peca emerged as a star player with the Sabres, excelling as a team leader as well as a defensive forward, winning the Frank J. Selke trophy in 1997 and 2002 when he captained the Sabres to the Stanley Cup Finals. Mike Peca also played for the New York Islanders where he helped his team to the Stanley Cup Championships before an unfortunate knee injury ended his season. He was traded to the Edmonton Oilers where he led his team to the Stanley Cup finals in 2006. Internationally, Mike Peca is a two-time gold medalist with Team Canada, winning gold at both the 1994 World Junior Championships and the 2002 Winter Olympics. Learn More about Rick Middleton: Rick Middleton was a right winger that played in the NHL from 1974-1988 for the New York Rangers and the Boston Bruins. Middleton had a strong rookie season with the Rangers but at the end of the second season was traded to the Boston Bruins in what sportswriters called one of the most lopsided deals in NHL history. Rick Middleton was traded to Bruins for Ken Hodge, a veteran player. Hodge would only play one season with the Rangers before putting up his skates. Middleton, on the other hand, was a young player at the beginning of his career and would spend the next twelve seasons in a Bruins uniform. Coach Don Cherry helped develop Rick Middleton into a solid two way forward who was strong on both the power play and the penalty kill. Middleton had five straight forty goal and 90 point seasons and finished his tenure in Boston with nearly 900 points as a Bruin. In 1985, Middleton became co-captain of the Bruins wearing the “C” during home games while teammate Ray Bourque captained the team for away games. He set an NHL record for most points in a playoff series with 19 and most assists in a playoff series with 14. His record 105 points in the 1983-1984 season tied Ken Hodges for most points by a right winger for the Boston franchise. He retired from hockey after 1005 regular season games and 988 points. Milt Schmidt Signed Puck-1947 All Star First All Star Game This Milt Schmidt Signed Puck-1947 All Star First All Star Game has been personally autographed by Mr. Schmidt. Learn More About Milt Schmidt: Milt Schmidt was a great centre who played 16 years in the NHL, from 1936-1942 and 1945-1955. Schmidt played junior hockey with his two friends Woody Dumart and Bobby Bauer until their rights were acquired by the Boston Bruins. Although Schmidt's rights were acquired in 1935, he did not start to play with the Bruins until 1937. Even in the NHL, Schmidt, Dumart and Bauer still played with each other and they formed the mighty Kraut Line. The Kraut Line was key factor to the Bruins success, and they won a Stanley Cup in 1939. The next year was one of Schmidt’s greatest seasons as he came out leading the league in scoring, he guided the Bruins to another first place and the team finished with the third most goals in team history. Schmidt also won another Stanley Cup in 1941. Schmidt missed three seasons after this because he, Dumart and Bauer enlisted in the Canadian Military during World War II from 1942-1945. However, before going overseas Schmidt played with Ottawa on the RCAF team and won the Allan Cup. Schmidt came back to the NHL in 1946 and he proved he was still a skilled goal scorer, finishing fourth in the league in scoring in 1947. He won the Hart Trophy for league MVP and was named captain of the Bruins in 1951. He retired part way through the 1954-1955 season to become coach of the Boston Bruins. He coached the Bruins for 11 seasons before becoming the team's General Manager. He won the Stanley Cup in 1970 and 1972 as a Manager. He later became the general manager of Washington Capitals in 1974. Milt Schmidt was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1961. He passed away in January 2017 at the age of 98.
