Learn More about Nick Kypreos: Nick Kypreos was a talented winger that showed great promise to become a leading goal scorer when he finished second in the OHL with 62 goals.  He went undrafted in the NHL and signed as a free agent with the Philadelphia Flyers, although he made his NHL debut with the Washington Capitals.  Kypreos struggled to score at the NHL level but quickly made a name for himself as a rugged enforcer.  In his eight NHL seasons, Kypreos played for the Washington Capitals, Hartford Whalers, New York Rangers and his hometown, Toronto Maple Leafs.  Kypreos spent a lot of time in the penalty box and was at the top of the league in penalty minutes.  A career highlight for Nick Kypreos was winning the 1994 Stanley Cup with the New York Rangers.  He was traded to Toronto where his career came to an abrupt end after a fight with the Rangers’ Ryan VandenBussche.  Kypreos hit the ice face first after being punched unconscious.  He was diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome.  After he retired as a player, Nick Kypreos became a broadcaster and hockey analyst. Gartner was originally drafted by the Washington Capitals in 1979 and made his debut that year in October against the Buffalo Sabres.  1979-1980 was a solid season for Gartner.  When Gartner was traded in 1989, he left Washington as the all-time leader in career goals, assists and points.  As of 2017, Gartner is third in goals and points and fourth in assists. Despite Gartner being a skillful player, he only lasted one season with Minnesota before he was traded to the Rangers.  Gartner scored 11 goals and 16 points in the remaining 12 regular season games.  The next season, 1990-1991, Gartner became the first player to reach his 500th goal, 500th assist and 100th point all in one season.  The next season he became the first Ranger to score at least 40 goals in 3 consecutive seasons.  Gartner was traded again in 1993-1994 to the Leafs.  He played with them until 1996 when he was traded to the Coyotes before he retired, two seasons later.     Lanny McDonald is a retired NHL winger that spent 16 seasons playing professional hockey for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Colorado Rockies and the Calgary Flames.  During his career, McDonald scored 500 goals and accumulated over 1000 points.  The offensive forward had 3 consecutive 40 goal seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs before he was traded to the Colorado Rockies in 1979.  The deal was met with fan protests outside Maple Leaf Gardens. Lanny McDonald was named captain of the Rockies where he only played in one full season before he was again traded.  This time he went to his hometown Calgary Flames where he would play for the rest of his career. Playing for the Calgary Flames, Lanny McDonald had some of the best years of his career.  The 1982-83 season saw McDonald battling Wayne Gretzky for top goal scorer in the league.  He finished the season with 66 goals, just 5 goals behind superstar Gretzky’s total of 71.  His 66 goals still stand as highest number of goals in a single season for the Calgary Flames organization.  He received the Bill Masterson Trophy for “perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.”  He ended his career on a high note, winning the Stanley Cup in 1989.  His jersey number 9, was the first to be retired by the Calgary Flames.  As well, Lanny McDonald was the first Calgary Flame to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1992. In 1988 he won the Calder trophy as best NHL rookie, and in 1995 he won the King Clancy award for his leadership on and off the ice. Nieuwendyk played 1,257 games in his career, scoring 559 goals and 1,126 points. Cliff Fletcher, who drafted him into the NHL, described Nieuwendyk as being a "pre-eminent two-way guy who had 50-goal seasons", adding that "he had a great stick around the net, he had a great shot, he saw the ice well, he could skate, he had the size – he had everything you needed to have. History has indicated that wherever he went, the team was competitive. The more that was on the line in big games, the better Joe played." He was an offensive centre in Calgary and power play specialist, able to withstand the physical punishment required to stand in front of the net and battle defencemen for the puck. He led the NHL in power play goals in 1987–88 with 31 and finished in the top ten on four other occasions. Niewendyk played in the NHL from 1987-2006 for the Cargary Flames, Dallas Stars, New Jersey Devils, Toronto Maple Leafs and the Florida Panthers. Learn More About Ed Olczyk: Ed Olczyk was professional ice hockey player that played center for the Chicago Blackhawks, the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Winnipeg Jets, New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings and the Pittsburgh Penguins during his 16 season career.  He was drafted 3rd overall in the 1984 Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks.  He scored his first NHL goal in his first game with the Blackhawks.  With the Blackhawks, he was part of the Clydesdale line with wingers Troy Murray and Curtis Fraser, a nickname given to them because each one weighed in at 200 plus pounds. In 1987, he was traded to Toronto and in 1990 he was traded again to the Winnipeg Jets. In 1992 he became a member of the New York Rangers where he was part of the 1994 Stanley Cup Championship team. Ed Olczyk played for the Jets a second time, with the Kings and Penguins before ending his career with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2000. Following his playing career Ed Olczyk became a color analyst for the Pittsburgh Penguins.  He served as head coach of the Penguins from 2003-2005.  He is currently a color commentator for the Chicago Blackhawks .  In August 2017, Ed Olczyk was diagnosed with colon cancer and is currently undergoing treatment.  He was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame in 2012. Learn More About Mats Sundin: Swedish sensation Mats Sundin joined the National Hockey League in 1989 where he was drafted first overall by the Quebec Nordiques becoming the first European-born player to be drafted first overall.  Sundin made his NHL debut with the Nordiques in the 1990-91 season becoming a leading goal scorer, finishing second on the team with 59 points.  Sundin continued to improve, establishing himself as a point-per-game player throughout his career. Mats Sundin was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs during the 1994 off season.  Sundin made an immediate impact with the Leafs, becoming a leading goal scorer for the team.  With the departure of Captain Doug Gilmour, Sundin became the 16th captain of the Maple Leafs and the first European captain in team history.  Sundin achieved many milestones during his time in Toronto: He became the 35th player in NHL history to reach the 500 goal mark; he scored his 917th point as a Maple Leaf, breaking Darryl Sittler’s franchise all-time record and he also scored his 390th goal in the same game to take the all-time goal scoring lead, later becoming the first player to score 400 goals as a Toronto Maple Leaf.
