Theo Fleury's small size led to many doubts about him making it to the NHL but he developed his own unpredictable style of aggressive hockey where he intimidated his opponents with his fiesty physical game. He racked up many penalty minutes. Theo Fleury was a leading goal scorer and held the franchise record until it was broken by Jarome Iginla in 2009. Internationally, Theo Fleury represented Team Canada and in 2002 won the Olympic Gold medal with Canada's Dream Team managed by Wayne Gretzky. Pierre Pilote was paired with teammate Elmer ‘Moose’ Vasko and was one of the best all-time defense pairings. Pilote was a great offensive defenseman, often carrying the puck up the ice. The Hawks had floundered for years prior to Pilote's arrival. But with the likes of Pilote, Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita and Glenn Hall, the Chicago Blackhawks became Stanley Cup champions in 1961. Pilote scored the winning or tying goal in every Blackhawks victory that season. Although 1961 pre-dated the Conn Smythe Trophy, Pierre Pilote was the obvious playoff MVP for the Hawks. His 15 points led all players in the Stanley Cup playoffs that year.. The following season Pierre Pilote became the captain of the Chicago Blackhawks. Pilote retired from hockey in 1969 after one season with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Pierre Pilote's great career was recognized in 1975 when he was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame. He retired having played 890 regular season NHL games, in which he scored 80 goals, 418 assists and 498 points. After being traded to the Philadelphia Flyers, Mark Recchi played on the ‘crazy 8’ line alongside Eric Lindros and Brent Fedyk, accumulating 123 points in the 1992-93 season, a single season scoring record for the franchise that still stands today. Mark Recchi played for the Carolina Hurricanes for the 2005-06 season where he would go on to win his second Stanley Cup Championship against his former team the Pittsburgh Penguins. In 2010-11, Recchi played for the Boston Bruins where he won his third Stanley Cup and became the oldest player ever to score a game at the Cup Final at the age of 43. Learn More about Pat LaFontaine: Pat LaFontaine is an NHL Hall of Famer that spent his entire career playing for New York state based teams: the New York Islanders, Buffalo Sabres and the New York Rangers. Pat LaFontaine was selected 3rd overall by the New York Islanders in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft. After representing Team USA in the 1984 Olympic Winter Games, LaFontaine made it back to the NHL in time to join the Islanders in the Stanley Cup Finals. The 1987-1988 season was the first of six 40 plus point seasons for Lafontaine. In the 1987 Stanley Cup division finals, LaFontaine scored the game winning goal in the 4th period of overtime against the Washington Capitals in game seven that was dubbed the “Easter Epic”. LaFontaine was traded to the Buffalo Sabres in October 1991 and during his second season with the Sabres, set a team record with 148 points. The potential hockey superstar suffered several career setbacks including concussions, a broken jaw and an injured knee. He was awarded the Bill Masterson Trophy at the end of the 1995 season for his determination and perseverance. He was traded to the New York Rangers but a series of concussions only saw Pat Lafontaine appear in 62 games. He retired at the end of the season with 468 goals and 1013 points. The Sabres retired his number 16 in 2006 and LaFontaine was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2003.
