He played left wing in the NHL for the Edmonton Oilers, New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues, New Jersey Devils, Vancouver Canucks, Florida Panthers and the Washington Capitals. He won the Stanley Cup five times in his career in 1985, 1987, 1988, 1990 with the Oilers and 1994 with the Rangers. Esa Tikkanen was originally drafted in 1983 by the Edmonton Oilers. Tikkanen's first game in the NHL was the second game of the 1985 Stanley Cup Playoffs. By playing in this one game, Tikkanen was eligible to have his name put on the Stanley Cup before his career even began. Tikkanen played with the Oilers until 1991. After this his career was a bit jumpy. In 1993, he was traded to the Rangers for a season. He was then traded to the St. Louis Blues where he played 11 games when he was traded to the New Jersey Devils. In 1996-1997, Tikkanen was traded yet again to the Rangers. In the summer of 1997 Tikkanen became a free agent but soon signed a contract with the Panthers which was also a short stay as he was traded to the Capitals. He played for the Boston Bruins, California Golden Seals, Philadelphia Flyers and the Detroit Red Wings. Leach was originally drafted by Boston in 1970. He played two seasons with them but was traded along with Rick Smith and Bob Stewart to California. After playing three seasons with California, Leach was traded to Philadelphia for Larry Wright, Al MacAdam and Ron Chipperfield in 1974. Leach won the Stanley Cup with Philadelphia in the 1974-75 season. After a few seasons with Philadelphia, Leach played his last season with the Red Wings then retired. Leach's best season was 1975-1976 with the Flyers. He set a career high with 61 goals 91 points and 11 game winning goals. His 61 goals won Leach what is now known as the Richard Trophy and he also won the Conn Smythe Trophy that season. During his career, Leach scored 381 goals 285, assists and 666 points in 934 career games. Leach was inducted into the Philadelphia Flyers Hall of Fame in 1992. Learn More about Mark Howe: Mark Howe was a professional hockey player that played in both the WHA and the NHL for 22 seasons. He is the son of the legendary Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe and brother of Marty Howe. Mark played left wing for the Houston Aeros of the WHA as linemate to his brother Marty and father Gordie who came out of retirement to play alongside his two sons. The Howes led their team to the 1974 and 1975 Avco Cups—the WHA version of the Stanley Cup. Mark also won the Lou Kaplan Trophy as Rookie of the Year. The Howe family moved to the New England Whalers which became the Hartford Whalers when the WHA and NHL merged. The Howes played one more season together in the NHL. Mark Howe was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers in 1982 and by then he had become a full-time defenseman. The 1985-1986 season was a career season for Mark where he put up some of the best numbers ever by an NHL defenseman with 24 goals and 58 assists for 82 points. Despite Mark Howe’s contribution, the injury-riddled Flyers were not playoff contenders. After the 1991-1992 season, Mark Howe signed with the Detroit Red Wings, his father’s former team in the hopes of winning a Stanley Cup. Unfortunately, the Red Wings were swept by the New Jersey Devils in the 1995 Stanley Cup Finals. Following his retirement as a player, Howe remained with the Detroit Red Wings as a video coach and pro scout, earning Stanley Cup rings in 1997, 1998, 2002 and 2008. Mark Howe was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2011 and is the second father-son duo in hockey history to receive the honor after Bobby and Brett Hull. Middleton had a strong rookie season with the Rangers but at the end of the second season was traded to the Boston Bruins in what sportswriters called one of the most lopsided deals in NHL history. Rick Middleton was traded to Bruins for Ken Hodge, a veteran player. Hodge would only play one season with the Rangers before putting up his skates. Middleton, on the other hand, was a young player at the beginning of his career and would spend the next twelve seasons in a Bruins uniform. Coach Don Cherry helped develop Rick Middleton into a solid two way forward who was strong on both the power play and the penalty kill. Middleton had five straight forty goal and 90 point seasons and finished his tenure in Boston with nearly 900 points as a Bruin. In 1985, Middleton became co-captain of the Bruins wearing the “C” during home games while teammate Ray Bourque captained the team for away games. He set an NHL record for most points in a playoff series with 19 and most assists in a playoff series with 14. His record 105 points in the 1983-1984 season tied Ken Hodges for most points by a right winger for the Boston franchise. He retired from hockey after 1005 regular season games and 988 points. Learn More About Harry Sinden: Harry Sinden has spent over 50 years as part of the Boston Bruins organization in varying roles starting from player, head coach to general manager, president and senior advisor to the club’s owner. Sinden was a great defenseman but he never played in the NHL. He played defence for the minor team, Toronto Marlboro Bantams and then in the Ontario Hockey League on the Oshawa Generals from 1949 to 1953. After playing with Oshawa, Sinden played six seasons with the Whitby Dunlops who he captained in 1957 when the Dunlops won the Allan Cup. Also he won a silver medal in the 1960 Olympics as part of the Canadian National Men's Hockey Team. Harry Sinden coached minor league hockey for six seasons starting in 1960 and became head coach of the Boston Bruins in 1966. Sinden was the youngest coach in the league at age 33 and the team finished with the worst record in the league his first season. Sinden got increasingly better and in the 1969-1970 season, Sinden coached the Bruins to the Stanley Cup Championship, their first in 29 years. Sinden retired from coaching just after the Bruins won the Cup due to his rocky relationship with Bruins management. He was named head coach and manager of Team Canada during the 1972 Summit Series despite spending two years away from hockey. After the successful Summit Series, he was offered the position of General Manager of the Bruins—a position he held for 28 years. Sinden remained with the Bruins as President. During his reign, the Boston Bruins had 30 consecutive playoff appearances. Harry Sinden was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1983 as a builder. A goaltender that played for the Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks and the New Jersey Devils. Sauvé was originally drafted in 1975 by the Buffalo Sabres and was drafted the same year by the Cincinnati Stingers of the WHA but Sauvé’s ambition was to play in the NHL. The Sabres selected three goaltenders Sauvé being one of the more notable ones. Sauvé played four games with the Sabres that season but he spent most of his time with the AHL's Rhode Island Reds. The next few seasons Sauvé split time with the Hershey Bears and the Sabres. In 1978-1979, Sauvé entered training camp determined to make good in the NHL however he suffered some injuries and began the season with Hershey. Later, he was called up to the Sabres permanently. Bob Sauvé and Don Edwards made an impact on the Sabres. In 1979-1980 Sauvé led in goals against average and was the co-recipient of the Vezina Trophy. In 1981, Sauvé was traded to the Red Wings but he resigned with the Sabres in 1982. He was then traded again to Calgary. There he met Tom Barrasso and they shared the William M Jennings Trophy for a few seasons. Sauvé spent two seasons with the Black Hawks before ending his career with the Devils in 1989. Seiling began his junior career as a winger but became a defenceman when he made the NHL. He played one game in the NHL for the Leafs before being sent down to the minors where he played for 2 different teams over the next couple of seasons before being traded to the New York Rangers where he played for the next decade. He was a good stay at home defenceman. He was claimed by the St. Louis Blues during the expansion draft but the Rangers traded for him the same day to keep him in New York. In 1974, he played for 3 different teams; the Rangers, the Washington Capitals and the Toronto Maple Leafs. He also played for the St. Louis Blues and Atlanta Flames before his retirement in 1979. Rod Seiling also represented Canada in the 1972 Summit Series where he played in three games. After his retirement as a player, Rod Seiling became a junior hockey coach. He played in the NHL and WHA as a goaltender. During his career, Mio played for the Edmonton Oilers, New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings and the Indianapolis Racers. Mio first put himself on the map for professional hockey when he decided to join the Colorado College from 1972-1976. During that time Mio became a standout as he won first and second all-star awards. He also made the NCAA west first all-American team two years in a row. In 1974, Mio was officially drafted by the Blackhawks and the Blazers of the WHA but he played with neither and spent most of his time playing with smaller teams until he went to the Indianapolis Racers. With New York Mio backstopped the Rangers for two seasons, then he was traded to Detroit for a season before retiring in 1986.
