The bulk of his career was spent with the Sabres who drafted him 29th overall in 1974. He excelled in his rookie season, accumulating 62 points total. He was selected to two All-Star teams and had two 50 goal seasons with a career best of 56 goals (tied for best in the NHL) and a total of 89 points. Gare was team captain from 1977 until 1981 when he was traded to the Detroit Red Wings. Danny Gare ended his career as an Edmonton Oiler in 1987 after 819 games. After his retirement as a player, Danny Gare was an assistant coach and color analyst for the Tampa Bay Lightning. He was also a broadcaster for the Sabres and the Columbus Blue Jackets. He was inducted into the Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame in 1994 and had his number 18 retired by the Sabres in 2005. He played in the NHL and WHA as a goaltender. During his career, Mio played for the Edmonton Oilers, New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings and the Indianapolis Racers. Mio first put himself on the map for professional hockey when he decided to join the Colorado College from 1972-1976. During that time Mio became a standout as he won first and second all-star awards. He also made the NCAA west first all-American team two years in a row. In 1974, Mio was officially drafted by the Blackhawks and the Blazers of the WHA but he played with neither and spent most of his time playing with smaller teams until he went to the Indianapolis Racers. Mio's goaltending was rough with the Racers and the biggest thing in his career would be befriending Wayne Gretzky. Shortly after that Mio was traded again to the Oilers in 1978. In Alberta, Mio got his first NHL action and had his first winning season in 1980-1981 before being traded again to the Rangers. With New York Mio backstopped the Rangers for two seasons, then he was traded to Detroit for a season before retiring in 1986. Larionov left North America to play in Switzerland for one year before returning to NHL to play for the San Jose Sharks where he served as alternate captain for the 1994-95 season. The following season, Igor Larionov was traded to the Detroit Red Wings where coach Scotty Bowman placed him on the highly effective “Russian Five” line. The Russian Five consisted of Viacheslav Fetisov, Sergei Fedorov, Vyacheslav Kozlov and Vladimir Konstantinov. They were an integral part of the Detroit’s back to back Stanley Cup Championships in 1997 and 1998. Larionov was traded to the Florida Panthers where he was reunited with Pavel Bure, however, he was traded back to the Red Wings before the season was over. Ciccarelli signed a contract with the Minnesota North Stars as a free agent in 1979. He was called up from the minors for the latter half of the 1980-1981 season where he played in 32 games scoring 18 goals and 30 points. In the playoffs, the North Stars went all the way to the finals with Ciccarelli contributing 14 goals and 21 points in 19 games. His solid performance earned him a spot on the North Stars and he built on his rookie success with a team high 55 goals and 106 points in his sophomore season. He left Minnesota in March of 1989 in a trade to the Washington Capitals. He had 651 points with the North Stars, 4th in club history.
