Selke Trophies as the league’s best defensive forward from 1976-1979, the same years he helped lead his team to four Stanley Cup Championships. In 1982, Bob Gainey succeeded Serge Savard and became Captain of the Montreal Canadiens. In 1986, he won his fifth career Stanley Cup and he announced his retirement the following year. In all, Bob Gainey finished his career after 1160 regular season games with 239 goals and 263 assists. He was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1992. He entered the NHL in 1952 despite a horrific knee injury suffered in minor leagues and played all but 5 games in 11 seasons for the Rangers. He was an excellent skater, easily weaving his way through the opposing team and he had one of the hardest shots in the league. During a Rangers game vs. the Montreal Canadiens, Bathgate took a slapshot that hit goaltender Jacques Plante in the face which required stitches. When he returned to the game, Plante wore the first goalie mask in an NHL game. In the 1963-64 season, Andy Bathgate was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs where he helped the Leafs win the Stanley Cup. The following year, he was traded to the Detroit Red Wings where he helped lead them to the Stanley Cup Finals. He also played one season with the Pittsburgh Penguins before joining the Vancouver Canucks of the WHL where they won two consecutive Lester Patrick Cups. In 1978, Andy Bathgate was elected into the Hockey Hall of Fame. On February 22, 2009, Andy Bathgate’s #9 was raised to the rafters by the New York Rangers. He began his playing career in 1950 and in the 1951-52 season became a full-time team member, winning the Stanley Cup in his rookie season. He was part of the high scoring Production Line with Gordie Howe and Ted Lindsay. He won his second and third Stanley Cup in 1954 and 1955. Although Alex Delvecchio was a top goal scorer and gifted playmaker, he was best known as a classy player and true gentleman. He was a three time recipient of the Lady Byng Trophy for sportsmanlike conduct. He was well liked by his teammates which led to him being named captain of the Red Wings from 1962 until he retired as a player in 1974. At the conclusion of his career, he had played 1549 regular season games with 456 goals, 825 assists and 1281 points. His number 10 was retired by the Red Wings and he was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1977. MacInnis played an instrumental role in his teams’ 1989 Stanley Cup Championship and was the recipient of the Conn Smythe Trophy for playoff MVP. He left the Flames after 11 seasons and was the leader in scoring with 822 points, 603 assists and 803 games played. Unfortunately, MacInnis’ career was cut short due to a series of eye injuries that led him to retire in 2005. He played for several teams throughout his hockey career including the Detroit Red Wings, St. Louis Blues, Boston Bruins, Washington Capitals, Philadelphia Flyers, the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and the Edmonton Oilers. Adam Oates was a first-line centre with the St. Louis Blues playing alongside superstar Brent Hull. The duo dubbed “Hull and Oates” put up prolific numbers in their two and a half seasons together with Hull scoring 86 goals one season and Oates with 115 points. Adam Oates is the only person in NHL history to centre 50 goals scorers with him assisting Hull, Cam Neely and Peter Bondra. Not only was Oates great at setting goals into motion with a career total of 1079 assists at the time of his retirement (5th in the league). He was also a consistent goal scorer himself reaching the 20-goal mark five times with a career high 45 goals. Although Adam Oates never won a Stanley Cup Championship throughout his 19 year career in the NHL, he did lead the Washington Capitals to their first Stanley Cup Finals in franchise history in 1998. His outstanding hockey achievements were recognized in 2012 when he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame alongside Pavel Bure, Joe Sakic and Mats Sundin. Learn More about Adam Graves: Adam Graves was an NHL left winger that was drafted 22nd overall by the Detroit Red Wings in 1986. He became a regular with the Red Wings in the 1988-1989 season, only scoring 7 goals in 56 games but also amassing 60 penalty minutes. His tenure in Detroit was short lived as he was traded to the Edmonton Oilers in November 1989. He was part of “the Kid line” alongside Martin Gelinas and Joe Murphy who helped the Oilers with their 5th Stanley Cup in 7 seasons. Adam Graves was signed by the New York Rangers as a free agent for the 1991-1992 season. He was asked to fulfill the role as a two-way forward as he had during his highly successful junior career. Graves responded well to the challenge increasing his performance with 26 and 36 goals in his first two seasons with the Rangers, helping them achieve the Presidents Trophy the first year with a league high 105 points. He won his second Stanley Cup with the Rangers in 1994. Graves played for the Rangers until 2001 when he joined the San Jose Sharks. He retired his skates in April 2004. The first full season of this contract was cut short for Foote due to an injury resulting in him only playing 42 games. Further injuries in the lineup resulted in Colorado finishing last in the Western Conference that year. In the off-season captain Joe Sakic announced his retirement and Foote was chosen as his replacement in 2009. In April 2011, Foote played his last game with Colorado before his retirement.
