Seiling began his junior career as a winger but became a defenceman when he made the NHL. He played one game in the NHL for the Leafs before being sent down to the minors where he played for 2 different teams over the next couple of seasons before being traded to the New York Rangers where he played for the next decade. He was a good stay at home defenceman. He was claimed by the St. Louis Blues during the expansion draft but the Rangers traded for him the same day to keep him in New York. In 1974, he played for 3 different teams; the Rangers, the Washington Capitals and the Toronto Maple Leafs. He also played for the St. Louis Blues and Atlanta Flames before his retirement in 1979. Rod Seiling also represented Canada in the 1972 Summit Series where he played in three games. After his retirement as a player, Rod Seiling became a junior hockey coach. Rogie Vachon was traded to the Los Angeles King where he played from 1971 to 1978 where he celebrated some of the best moments of his career. He was team MVP for 4 consecutive years starting in 1973. He was runner up for the Vezina Trophy in 1975 and he was selected for NHL Second All-Star Team in 1975 and 1977. Vachon was considered one of the best one-to-one goaltenders in his era and he never allowed a single goal on a penalty shot for his entire career. Rogie Vachon was honoured by the Los Angeles Kings as his was the first number retired by the franchise in 1985. Following his retirement as a player, Rogie Vachon continued to serve the LA Kings as GM from 1984-1992. He was interim head coach on 3 separate occasions. A goaltender that played for the Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks and the New Jersey Devils. Sauvé was originally drafted in 1975 by the Buffalo Sabres and was drafted the same year by the Cincinnati Stingers of the WHA but Sauvé’s ambition was to play in the NHL. The Sabres selected three goaltenders Sauvé being one of the more notable ones. Sauvé played four games with the Sabres that season but he spent most of his time with the AHL's Rhode Island Reds. The next few seasons Sauvé split time with the Hershey Bears and the Sabres. In 1978-1979, Sauvé entered training camp determined to make good in the NHL however he suffered some injuries and began the season with Hershey. Later, he was called up to the Sabres permanently. Bob Sauvé and Don Edwards made an impact on the Sabres. In 1979-1980 Sauvé led in goals against average and was the co-recipient of the Vezina Trophy. In 1981, Sauvé was traded to the Red Wings but he resigned with the Sabres in 1982. He was then traded again to Calgary. He is widely regarded as one of the top defensemen in NHL history. After only one year at Boston College, Leetch played in the 1988 Olympics for the US Olympic hockey team. Just days later he made his NHL debut with the New York Rangers in February of 1988. In his first full season, the following year he was awarded the Calder Trophy as well as being chosen for the NHL All-Star Rookie team. In 1992, Leetch became the only American defenseman, and fifth overall, to score 100 points in a season and was awarded the Norris Trophy. Two years later, in 1994, the Rangers won both the Presidents' Trophy as well as the Stanley Cup. Laprade was known for his determination and strong work ethic and was nicknamed “the Beaver” by his teammates. In his first season with the NHL, Laprade earned 34 points in 49 games and won the Calder Memorial Trophy for rookie of the year. He made four All-Star game appearances throughout his career. He played in the NHL and WHA as a goaltender. During his career, Mio played for the Edmonton Oilers, New York Rangers, Detroit Red Wings and the Indianapolis Racers. Mio first put himself on the map for professional hockey when he decided to join the Colorado College from 1972-1976. During that time Mio became a standout as he won first and second all-star awards. He also made the NCAA west first all-American team two years in a row. In 1974, Mio was officially drafted by the Blackhawks and the Blazers of the WHA but he played with neither and spent most of his time playing with smaller teams until he went to the Indianapolis Racers. Mio's goaltending was rough with the Racers and the biggest thing in his career would be befriending Wayne Gretzky. Shortly after that Mio was traded again to the Oilers in 1978. In Alberta, Mio got his first NHL action and had his first winning season in 1980-1981 before being traded again to the Rangers. He played for the New York Americans and the New York Rangers. Originally, Rayner played for the Kenora Thistles in the Manitoba Junior League. He showed his potential by backstopping the team into getting a Memorial Cup. The year after that he turned professional and played for the Americans however he spent most of his time on the affiliate team the Springfield Indians of the AHL. When Rayner was with the Indians he led the league in shutouts and goals against average. He was named to the Second All-Star Team. The next season, Rayner was the leading goalie for the Americans final season but then World War II started, and the Americans folded. Rayner spent the next three years in the Royal Canadian Navy. He played two seasons there with the teams based out of Victoria. After the war, Rayner signed as a free agent with the Rangers in 1945. Rayner was the starter goalie in six of the seven next seasons. Although Rayner hadn't set any goals he was still one of the best goalies of his era. 1948-51 were his best seasons as he won the Hart Memorial Trophy as the NHL's MVP in 1950 after leading the Rangers to overtime in the seventh game in the Stanley Cup Finals. Ciccarelli signed a contract with the Minnesota North Stars as a free agent in 1979. He was called up from the minors for the latter half of the 1980-1981 season where he played in 32 games scoring 18 goals and 30 points. In the playoffs, the North Stars went all the way to the finals with Ciccarelli contributing 14 goals and 21 points in 19 games. His solid performance earned him a spot on the North Stars and he built on his rookie success with a team high 55 goals and 106 points in his sophomore season. He left Minnesota in March of 1989 in a trade to the Washington Capitals. He had 651 points with the North Stars, 4th in club history. Dino Ciccarelli spent the rest of his career with shorter stints with the Washington Capitals, the Detroit Red Wings, the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Florida Panthers. His gritty “in-your-face” style of hockey helped inspire his team and provided a veteran presence with his later teams. Upon his retirement in 1999, Ciccarelli had played in 1232 regular season games with 608 goals and 592 assists for 1200 points. He was ranked ninth in scoring in NHL history. He played for the Boston Bruins, California Golden Seals, Philadelphia Flyers and the Detroit Red Wings. Leach was originally drafted by Boston in 1970. He played two seasons with them but was traded along with Rick Smith and Bob Stewart to California. After playing three seasons with California, Leach was traded to Philadelphia for Larry Wright, Al MacAdam and Ron Chipperfield in 1974. Leach won the Stanley Cup with Philadelphia in the 1974-75 season. After a few seasons with Philadelphia, Leach played his last season with the Red Wings then retired. Leach's best season was 1975-1976 with the Flyers. He set a career high with 61 goals 91 points and 11 game winning goals. His 61 goals won Leach what is now known as the Richard Trophy and he also won the Conn Smythe Trophy that season. During his career, Leach scored 381 goals 285, assists and 666 points in 934 career games. Leach was inducted into the Philadelphia Flyers Hall of Fame in 1992. Learn More About Mike Vernon: Mike Vernon was a young goaltender who spent 19 seasons in the NHL playing for the Calgary Flames, Detroit Red Wings, San Hose Sharks and the Florida Panthers. Vernon started his career in the minor Calgary hockey system. After a strong rookie season he was chosen by the Calgary Flames in the 1981 NHL draft. The Flames left Vernon in junior hockey during the 1981-1982 season and he earned selection to the WHL All-Star team. In 1982-1983 he spent most of his time with the CHL's Colorado Flames. In 1984, he returned to the Calgary Flames but suffered a loss and returned to the CHL. Vernon won a Stanley Cup with the Flames in 1989. In 1994 Vernon was traded to the Detroit Red Wings. Detroit thought that Vernon would help teach their younger goaltender Chris Osgood, and was Detroit's best goaltender in 1994-1995. In 1995 Vernon helped Detroit get the President Trophy. Also in 1995 Detroit got to the Stanley Cup finals but lost to the New Jersey Devils. Osgood began to get better as the Detroit goaltender and became their primary goalie in 1995-1996. Vernon and Osgood shared the William M. Jenning Trophy. Detroit traded Vernon to the San Hose Sharks in 1997. Vernon played two full seasons with the Sharks but was traded in 1999 to the Florida Panthers. He played 34 games with this team but was soon traded back to the Flames. He played a few seasons with the Flames and was named one of the best goaltenders in that era.
