He played for the New Jersey Devils, St. Louis Blues, Detroit Red Wings and the New York Rangers. Shanahan won the Stanley Cup three times with the Detroit Red Wings in 1997, 1998 and 2002. In 2017 Shanahan was part of the second group to be named the 100 greatest NHL Players in History. Shanahan is a great player and at the end of his playing career, he had scored 656 goals. Shanahan was one of the only players in NHL history with over 600 goals and 2000 minutes of penalty time. Brendan Shanahan also played for Team Canada internationally. He is widely regarded as one of the top defensemen in NHL history. After only one year at Boston College, Leetch played in the 1988 Olympics for the US Olympic hockey team. Just days later he made his NHL debut with the New York Rangers in February of 1988. In his first full season, the following year he was awarded the Calder Trophy as well as being chosen for the NHL All-Star Rookie team. In 1992, Leetch became the only American defenseman, and fifth overall, to score 100 points in a season and was awarded the Norris Trophy. Playing on frozen ponds in his native Calgary until after nightfall, Bill Gadsby left home at the age of 17 to pursue a career on the ice. He got his lucky break when Chicago Blackhawks scout, Bill Tobin, discovered the talented defenseman and offered him a contract. After only 12 games in the minors, Gadsby made it to the NHL at the age of 18. In his debut game, he got a cut to the face that took 12 stitches to close. Gadsby was a solid defenseman, playing for the Blackhawks until 1954 when he was traded to the New York Rangers. During his tenure with the Rangers, Gadsby was elected to 4 All-Star Games and in 1957-1958, he set a defense record for 46 assists. Bill Gadsby played for the Detroit Red Wings, hopeful that he would finally capture a Stanley Cup win. Gadsby reached several milestones while in Detroit: first defenceman to reach 500 points, and his 20th NHL season. Gadsby did reach the Stanley Cup finals in 1964, only to lose to the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 7. Bill Gadsby was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1970 and he continues to be an honoured member of the Detroit Red Wings Alumni Association. Playing on frozen ponds in his native Calgary until after nightfall, Bill Gadsby left home at the age of 17 to pursue a career on the ice. He got his lucky break when Chicago Blackhawks scout, Bill Tobin, discovered the talented defenseman and offered him a contract. After only 12 games in the minors, Gadsby made it to the NHL at the age of 18. In his debut game, he got a cut to the face that took 12 stitches to close. Gadsby was a solid defenseman, playing for the Blackhawks until 1954 when he was traded to the New York Rangers. During his tenure with the Rangers, Gadsby was elected to 4 All-Star Games and in 1957-1958, he set a defense record for 46 assists. Bill Gadsby played for the Detroit Red Wings, hopeful that he would finally capture a Stanley Cup win. Gadsby reached several milestones while in Detroit: first defenceman to reach 500 points, and his 20th NHL season. Gadsby did reach the Stanley Cup finals in 1964, only to lose to the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 7. Bill Gadsby was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1970 and he continues to be an honoured member of the Detroit Red Wings Alumni Association. Learn More about Ed Belfour: Ed Belfour played hockey for 19 seasons as a goaltender for NHL teams such the Chicago Blackhawks, San Jose Sharks, Dallas Stars, Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers. He signed with the Blackhawks in 1989 after not being picked in the draft. Ed Belfour was named starting goalie for the 1990-91 season. In the 74 games played, Belfour had 43 wins, earning the NHL rookie record as well as Blackhawk team record. The finished the season leading the league in Wins, Save % and GAA. He won three trophies for his successful season including the Calder Memorial Trophy (outstanding play by a rookie), the Vezina Trophy (best goaltender) and the William M. Jennings Trophy for fewest team goals against. Ed Belfour would later be traded to the San Jose Sharks where he would play for half a season before signing with the Dallas Stars as a free agent. Belfour would lead his team to the playoffs for 3 consecutive seasons although they came up short for a Stanley Cup. Ed Belfour joined the Toronto Maple Leafs for the 2002 season where he helped his team finish second place in their division thanks to his 37 win season (a franchise record). On November 28, 2005, Ed Belfour won his 447th career NHL game to tie for 2nd place in wins with Terry Sawchuk and surpassed him on December 19. Belfour finished his NHL career with the Florida Panthers. In 2007, Belfour signed with the Leksands IF in the Swedish second division. He would shine in the European league with a GAA of 1.79, the best in the division. Ed Belfour retired from hockey in 2008 and was named to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2011.
