Learn More about Lou Fontinato: Leapin’ Louie Fontinato was an NHL defenceman that played for the New York Rangers and Montreal Canadiens from 1954-1963. He was a rugged enforcer that led the league in penalty minutes with 202. Fontinato had a long running feud with Gordie Howe which culminated in a fight where Howe broke Fontinato’s nose and dislocated his jaw. Howe described the fight as one of the most memorable of his career. Lou Fontinato was traded to the Montreal Canadiens where he spent two more seasons before he suffered a career ending injury after colliding head first into the boards on a missed check. He was paralyzed for a month and did not regain feeling in his arms for four months. Lou Fontinato passed away on July 3, 2016 at the age of 84. He played two seasons there with the teams based out of Victoria. After the war, Rayner signed as a free agent with the Rangers in 1945. Rayner was the starter goalie in six of the seven next seasons. Although Rayner hadn't set any goals he was still one of the best goalies of his era. 1948-51 were his best seasons as he won the Hart Memorial Trophy as the NHL's MVP in 1950 after leading the Rangers to overtime in the seventh game in the Stanley Cup Finals. He became a regular with the Red Wings in the 1988-1989 season, only scoring 7 goals in 56 games but also amassing 60 penalty minutes. His tenure in Detroit was short lived as he was traded to the Edmonton Oilers in November 1989. He was part of “the Kid line” alongside Martin Gelinas and Joe Murphy who helped the Oilers with their 5th Stanley Cup in 7 seasons. Adam Graves was signed by the New York Rangers as a free agent for the 1991-1992 season. He was asked to fulfill the role as a two-way forward as he had during his highly successful junior career. Graves responded well to the challenge increasing his performance with 26 and 36 goals in his first two seasons with the Rangers, helping them achieve the Presidents Trophy the first year with a league high 105 points. He won his second Stanley Cup with the Rangers in 1994. Graves played for the Rangers until 2001 when he joined the San Jose Sharks. He retired his skates in April 2004. Learn More about Glenn Healy: Signing on as a free agent in 1985, Glenn Healy played in the NHL for fifteen years on various teams such as the New York Rangers, New York Islanders, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Los Angeles Kings. Healy was the goalie on the Stanley Cup winning Rangers team in 1993-1994, in 1995-1996 he won two Rangers awards; the Rangers Good Guy Award and Rangers Fan Club Ceil Saidel Award. After retiring from playing, Healy became a colour commentator for first CBC then TSN. In 2009-2010 he moved to analyzing games for Hockey Night in Canada before joining the NHL at Sportsnet cast in 2014. He created the "Loch Ness Monster" segment for TSN which looks at players that did not turn out to be the key player viewers were expecting. In 2016 Healy was cut from Hockey Night in Canada and is now the Executive Director/President of the NHL Alumni Association. The brother of Gordie Howe, Vic attained much of his successes in the minor leagues and in Europe. Howe played in the OHL through the late forties for the Windsor Spitfires and the IHL's Hettche club. He played a total of 33 games with the New York Rangers over the course of three seasons as well as stints in the EHL's New York Rovers, and the WHL's Saskatoon Quakers. He played in the British League for the Harringway Racers for the 1956-1957 season. After retirement, Howe became a constable for the Canadian National Railway, a career he held for three decades. He began his career coaching at the varsity and junior levels in 1977. He led the Oshawa Legionaries to back to back championships in 1979 and 1980. Mike Keenan moved on to coaching the Rochester Americans to the AHL championship in 1983. The following year, Keenan got his first high profile coaching job, coaching the Philadelphia Flyers in 1984. He was with the Flyers for 4 years before becoming head coach of the Chicago Blackhawks in 1988 and head coach of the New York Rangers in 1993. In 1994, he led the Rangers to their first Stanley Cup Championship since 1940. Mike Keenan also was coach and/or GM for the St. Louis Blues, Vancouver Canucks, Boston Bruins and the Florida Panthers. In 2007 Keenan became senior advisor to the Swedish Ice Hockey Association. This position was short lived as he returned to the NHL to coach the Calgary Flames. Keenan recorded his 600th win as a coach with the Flames. Keenan left the NHL to join the KHL in 2013. Learn More about Pat LaFontaine: Pat LaFontaine is an NHL Hall of Famer that spent his entire career playing for New York state based teams: the New York Islanders, Buffalo Sabres and the New York Rangers. Pat LaFontaine was selected 3rd overall by the New York Islanders in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft. After representing Team USA in the 1984 Olympic Winter Games, LaFontaine made it back to the NHL in time to join the Islanders in the Stanley Cup Finals. The 1987-1988 season was the first of six 40 plus point seasons for Lafontaine. In the 1987 Stanley Cup division finals, LaFontaine scored the game winning goal in the 4th period of overtime against the Washington Capitals in game seven that was dubbed the “Easter Epic”. LaFontaine was traded to the Buffalo Sabres in October 1991 and during his second season with the Sabres, set a team record with 148 points. The potential hockey superstar suffered several career setbacks including concussions, a broken jaw and an injured knee. He was awarded the Bill Masterson Trophy at the end of the 1995 season for his determination and perseverance. He was traded to the New York Rangers but a series of concussions only saw Pat Lafontaine appear in 62 games. He retired at the end of the season with 468 goals and 1013 points. The Sabres retired his number 16 in 2006 and LaFontaine was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2003.
