Sauvé was originally drafted in 1975 by the Buffalo Sabres and was drafted the same year by the Cincinnati Stingers of the WHA but Sauvé’s ambition was to play in the NHL. The Sabres selected three goaltenders Sauvé being one of the more notable ones. Sauvé played four games with the Sabres that season but he spent most of his time with the AHL's Rhode Island Reds. The next few seasons Sauvé split time with the Hershey Bears and the Sabres. In his first full season, the following year he was awarded the Calder Trophy as well as being chosen for the NHL All-Star Rookie team. In 1992, Leetch became the only American defenseman, and fifth overall, to score 100 points in a season and was awarded the Norris Trophy. Two years later, in 1994, the Rangers won both the Presidents' Trophy as well as the Stanley Cup. Due to his performance in the playoffs, Leetch became the first non-Canadian to win the Conn Smythe Trophy. He served as captain for the American team in the 1996 World Cup of Hockey. He played for the New York Americans and the New York Rangers. Originally, Rayner played for the Kenora Thistles in the Manitoba Junior League. He showed his potential by backstopping the team into getting a Memorial Cup. The year after that he turned professional and played for the Americans however he spent most of his time on the affiliate team the Springfield Indians of the AHL. When Rayner was with the Indians he led the league in shutouts and goals against average. He was named to the Second All-Star Team. The next season, Rayner was the leading goalie for the Americans final season but then World War II started, and the Americans folded. Rayner spent the next three years in the Royal Canadian Navy. Ed Belfour Olympics Team Canada Signed Hockey Puck This hand signed Team Canada hockey puck has been personally autographed by Ed Belfour. Learn More about Ed Belfour: Ed Belfour played hockey for 19 seasons as a goaltender for NHL teams such the Chicago Blackhawks, San Jose Sharks, Dallas Stars, Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers. He signed with the Blackhawks in 1989 after not being picked in the draft. Ed Belfour was named starting goalie for the 1990-91 season. In the 74 games played, Belfour had 43 wins, earning the NHL rookie record as well as Blackhawk team record. The finished the season leading the league in Wins, Save % and GAA. He won three trophies for his successful season including the Calder Memorial Trophy (outstanding play by a rookie), the Vezina Trophy (best goaltender) and the William M. Jennings Trophy for fewest team goals against. Ed Belfour would later be traded to the San Jose Sharks where he would play for half a season before signing with the Dallas Stars as a free agent. Belfour would lead his team to the playoffs for 3 consecutive seasons although they came up short for a Stanley Cup. Ed Belfour joined the Toronto Maple Leafs for the 2002 season where he helped his team finish second place in their division thanks to his 37 win season (a franchise record). On November 28, 2005 Ed Belfour won his 447th career NHL game to tie for 2nd place in wins with Terry Sawchuk and surpassed him on December 19. Belfour finished his NHL career with the Florida Panthers. In 2007, Belfour signed with the Leksands IF in the Swedish second division. He would shine in the European league with a GAA of 1.79, the best in the division. Ed Belfour retired from hockey in 2008 and was named to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2011. As a teenager, he suffered serious burns to his hands and feet in a kitchen fire and was told he would never play hockey. Giacomin was even more determined to prove them wrong. He spent six seasons with the minor league Providence Red before becoming the starting goalie for the New York Rangers, an impressive feat considering there were only six starting goalie positions in the NHL at the time. The Canadiensowners, bought the QSHL and converted it from an amateur to minor pro league, forcing Beliveau to join the Canadiens for the 1953-54 season due to the previously signed “B-form.” Jean Beliveau spent the next 18 seasons with the Canadiens and was a crucial part of their success. Beliveau was a lightning fast skater, talented stickhandler and brilliant playmaker who could also score with his accurate and powerful shots on net. He became an instant fan favorite, all around team player and one of the greatest captains in league history. He played on 10 Stanley Cup winning teams, winning 5 consecutive Cups from 1956-1960. He was team captain for his last 10 seasons, the longest tenure of any captain in club history. Beliveauwas known as a gentleman both on and off the ice, leading by example, he was a mentor to new players and a valued confidant to veterans. He played right wing in the NHL for the Washington Capitals, Minnesota North Stars, New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs and the Phoenix Coyotes. With these teams Gartner played a total of 19 seasons. Gartner was originally drafted by the Washington Capitals in 1979 and made his debut that year in October against the Buffalo Sabres. 1979-1980 was a solid season for Gartner. When Gartner was traded in 1989, he left Washington as the all-time leader in career goals, assists and points. As of 2017, Gartner is third in goals and points and fourth in assists. Despite Gartner being a skillful player, he only lasted one season with Minnesota before he was traded to the Rangers. Gartner scored 11 goals and 16 points in the remaining 12 regular season games. The next season, 1990-1991, Gartner became the first player to reach his 500th goal, 500th assist and 100th point all in one season. The next season he became the first Ranger to score at least 40 goals in 3 consecutive seasons. Gartner was traded again in 1993-1994 to the Leafs. He played with them until 1996 when he was traded to the Coyotes before he retired, two seasons later. He began his career coaching at the varsity and junior levels in 1977. He led the Oshawa Legionaries to back to back championships in 1979 and 1980. Mike Keenan moved on to coaching the Rochester Americans to the AHL championship in 1983. The following year, Keenan got his first high profile coaching job, coaching the Philadelphia Flyers in 1984. He was with the Flyers for 4 years before becoming head coach of the Chicago Blackhawks in 1988 and head coach of the New York Rangers in 1993.
