He played right wing in the NHL for the Washington Capitals, Minnesota North Stars, New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs and the Phoenix Coyotes. With these teams Gartner played a total of 19 seasons. Gartner was originally drafted by the Washington Capitals in 1979 and made his debut that year in October against the Buffalo Sabres. 1979-1980 was a solid season for Gartner. When Gartner was traded in 1989, he left Washington as the all-time leader in career goals, assists and points. As of 2017, Gartner is third in goals and points and fourth in assists. Despite Gartner being a skillful player, he only lasted one season with Minnesota before he was traded to the Rangers. Gartner scored 11 goals and 16 points in the remaining 12 regular season games. The next season, 1990-1991, Gartner became the first player to reach his 500th goal, 500th assist and 100th point all in one season. He played two seasons there with the teams based out of Victoria. After the war, Rayner signed as a free agent with the Rangers in 1945. Rayner was the starter goalie in six of the seven next seasons. In 1990, Lemieux was dealt to the New Jersey Devils where he shined in the 1995 post season contributing 13 goals to the Devils Stanley Cup Championship winning the Conn Smythe Trophy for playoff MVP. The next season he played for the Colorado Avalanche where he won his third Stanley Cup becoming only the 10th player in the NHL to win back to back Cups with different teams. He was traded back to the Devils in 1999 where he won his final career Stanley Cup. Throughout his career, Claude Lemieux had a reputation as one of the dirtiest players in the league. He antagonized the other team and would do whatever it takes to win a hockey game. It is largely believed that Lemieux sparked the bitter rivalry between the Detroit Red Wings and the Colorado Avalanche during the 1996 playoffs. He checked Kris Draper from behind pushing him head first into the boards leading to a concussion, broken jaw, nose and cheekbones. Tensions rose into the next season between the two teams leading to a bench clearing brawl that culminated in Lemieux being badly beaten by Darren McCarty before officials could remove him. He is the son of the legendary Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe and brother of Marty Howe. Mark played left wing for the Houston Aeros of the WHA as linemate to his brother Marty and father Gordie who came out of retirement to play alongside his two sons. The Howes led their team to the 1974 and 1975 Avco Cups—the WHA version of the Stanley Cup. Mark also won the Lou Kaplan Trophy as Rookie of the Year. He is the son of the legendary Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe and brother of Marty Howe. Mark played left wing for the Houston Aeros of the WHA as linemate to his brother Marty and father Gordie who came out of retirement to play alongside his two sons. The Howes led their team to the 1974 and 1975 Avco Cups—the WHA version of the Stanley Cup. Mark also won the Lou Kaplan Trophy as Rookie of the Year. Learn More about Grant Fuhr: Grant Fuhr was a NHL goaltender drafted eighth overall in the 1981 Entry draft by the Edmonton Oilers. He played ten seasons with the Oilers and won the Stanley Cup four times with them from 1983-1987. In 1987 he also played in the NHL All-Stars Rendezvous series and in the 1987-19 88 season's Canada Cup to secure a win for his team. That same year he won both the Vezina Trophy for best goalie and the Hart Memorial Trophy for league MVP. He also played in the All-Star games from 1984-1986 as well as 1988 and 1989. In 1991 Fuhr was traded to Toronto and then again to Buffalo. In 1993-1994 he had a successful season that resulted in a William M. Jennings Trophy for fewest goals allowed. He was then traded to the Los Angeles Kings though he did not have another successful season until he signed as a free agent in St Louis for the 1995-1996 campaign. He achieved two league records that season for games in a season (79) and consecutive games (76). Fuhr did not complete the playoffs due to tearing three knee ligaments; he never recovered fully from the injury. From 1999-2001 he served as the mentor for younger players on the Calgary Flames before retiring. Fuhr was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2003 and the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame in 2004. Learn More about Red Kelly: Leonard Patrick “Red” Kelly began his professional hockey career in 1947 playing defense for the Detroit Red Wings. Kelly was a versatile player that not only had great checking skills, he also had great offensive ability that allowed him to quickly get the puck down the ice. Kelly was a great asset to the Red Wings, in his 12 years with the organization they won 8 regular season championships, four Stanley Cups and was chosen First Team All-Star defenceman six times. He won the James Norris Memorial Trophy for NHL top defenceman and 3 Lady Byng Trophies for the NHL’s most gentlemanly player. After an ankle injury, Red Kelly was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Red Kelly became full-time center for the Maple Leafs to play him against Montreal’s Jean Beliveau. Playing alongside goal scorer Frank Mahovlich, the Toronto Maple Leafs won 4 Stanley Cups in Kelly’s 8 seasons on the team. Red Kelly decided to retire on a high note, ending his playing career after winning his eighth Stanley Cup in 1967. Red Kelly continued his career in the NHL as coach of new expansion team, the Los Angeles Kings. Despite being a rookie coach, Kelly’s team made the playoffs two years in a row. Learn More about Theoren "Theo" Fleury: Theo Fleury is a right winger that played in the NHL from 1988-2006 after being drafted in 1987 by the Calgary Flames. He played in over 1000 NHL games and had a career high 1088 points. He helped lead his Calgary Flames to the franchise's first Stanley Cup Championship in 1989. Theo Fleury's small size led to many doubts about him making it to the NHL but he developed his own unpredictable style of aggressive hockey where he intimidated his opponents with his fiesty physical game. He racked up many penalty minutes. Theo Fleury was a leading goal scorer and held the franchise record until it was broken by Jarome Iginla in 2009. Internationally, Theo Fleury represented Team Canada and in 2002 won the Olympic Gold medal with Canada's Dream Team managed by Wayne Gretzky. Calgary's small market led to his traded from the Flames to Colorado, and then the NY Rangers and finally the Chicago Blackhawks. Due to personal issues, Theo Fleury was suspended by the NHL in 2003. He did stage a comeback bid in 2009 playing in 4 exhibition games for the Calgary Flames but was not signed to a contract. Theo Fleury was satisfied that he would end his career in a Calgary uniform, he announced his retirement in 2009.
