Phil Goyette was traded to the New York Rangers where the skilled playmaker continued to improve his game and increase his numbers. 1969 was a career season for Goyette as he joined the St. Louis Blues and put up 78 points in the regular season. He was also awarded a Lady Byng Trophy as the League’s Most Gentlemanly Player. Goyette was picked up by the Buffalo Sabres during the 1970 expansion draft. He played just over a season before his retirement as a player. After his retirement, Goyette became the head coach of the New York Islanders. The team quickly fell to last in the league and Goyette’s coaching career came to a quick end. Vic Hadfield 1972 Summit Series Team Canada Autographed Hockey Puck This hand signed Team Canada hockey puck has been personally autographed by Vic Hadfield. Learn More about Vic Hadfield: Vic Hadfield made it to the NHL as a rugged enforcer for the New York Rangers in 1959. He posted triple digit penalty numbers and led the league in 1963-1964 with 151 penalty minutes. As Hadfield’s career progressed with the Rangers, he was put on the same line with Jean Ratelle and Rod Gilbert. This line would become known as the Goal a Game line and Hadfield’s focuses shifted scoring. Vic Hadfield was an example of one player doing it all as his points totals came closer to matching his penalty minutes. In 1971-1972, he had his career best season with 50 goals, 106 points and 142 PIM. He became captain of the New York Rangers the following season and was also chosen to play in the 1972 Summit Series. He began his career coaching at the varsity and junior levels in 1977. He led the Oshawa Legionaries to back to back championships in 1979 and 1980. Mike Keenan moved on to coaching the Rochester Americans to the AHL championship in 1983. The following year, Keenan got his first high profile coaching job, coaching the Philadelphia Flyers in 1984. He was with the Flyers for 4 years before becoming head coach of the Chicago Blackhawks in 1988 and head coach of the New York Rangers in 1993. In 1994, he led the Rangers to their first Stanley Cup Championship since 1940. Mike Keenan also was coach and/or GM for the St. Louis Blues, Vancouver Canucks, Boston Bruins and the Florida Panthers. In 2007 Keenan became senior advisor to the Swedish Ice Hockey Association. Laprade was known for his determination and strong work ethic and was nicknamed “the Beaver” by his teammates. In his first season with the NHL, Laprade earned 34 points in 49 games and won the Calder Memorial Trophy for rookie of the year. He made four All-Star game appearances throughout his career. Learn More about Brian Leetch: Brian Leetch played 18 NHL seasons in his career with the New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Boston Bruins. He is widely regarded as one of the top defensemen in NHL history. After only one year at Boston College, Leetch played in the 1988 Olympics for the US Olympic hockey team. Just days later he made his NHL debut with the New York Rangers in February of 1988. In his first full season, the following year he was awarded the Calder Trophy as well as being chosen for the NHL All-Star Rookie team. In 1992, Leetch became the only American defenseman, and fifth overall, to score 100 points in a season and was awarded the Norris Trophy. Two years later, in 1994, the Rangers won both the Presidents' Trophy as well as the Stanley Cup. Due to his performance in the playoffs, Leetch became the first non-Canadian to win the Conn Smythe Trophy. He served as captain for the American team in the 1996 World Cup of Hockey. Brian Leetch served as captain for the Rangers from 1997-2000. Leetch was traded to Toronto in 2004 but due to lockout the last year of his contract expired and he became a free agent. He signed on with Boston for 2005-2006 season and then retired. He was inducted into the US Ice Hockey Hall of Fame in 2008, in the same year the Rangers retired his number. A goaltender that played for the Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks and the New Jersey Devils. Sauvé was originally drafted in 1975 by the Buffalo Sabres and was drafted the same year by the Cincinnati Stingers of the WHA but Sauvé’s ambition was to play in the NHL. The Sabres selected three goaltenders Sauvé being one of the more notable ones. Sauvé played four games with the Sabres that season but he spent most of his time with the AHL's Rhode Island Reds. The next few seasons Sauvé split time with the Hershey Bears and the Sabres. In 1978-1979, Sauvé entered training camp determined to make good in the NHL however he suffered some injuries and began the season with Hershey. Later, he was called up to the Sabres permanently. Bob Sauvé and Don Edwards made an impact on the Sabres. In 1979-1980 Sauvé led in goals against average and was the co-recipient of the Vezina Trophy. In 1981, Sauvé was traded to the Red Wings but he resigned with the Sabres in 1982. He was then traded again to Calgary. There he met Tom Barrasso and they shared the William M Jennings Trophy for a few seasons. Sauvé spent two seasons with the Black Hawks before ending his career with the Devils in 1989. He was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the 1992 Entry Draft but only played in 37 games with the team before being traded to the Buffalo Sabres for Alexander Mogilny. Peca emerged as a star player with the Sabres, excelling as a team leader as well as a defensive forward, winning the Frank J. Selke trophy in 1997 and 2002 when he captained the Sabres to the Stanley Cup Finals. Mike Peca also played for the New York Islanders where he helped his team to the Stanley Cup Championships before an unfortunate knee injury ended his season. He was traded to the Edmonton Oilers where he led his team to the Stanley Cup finals in 2006. Peca also played for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Columbus Blue Jackets before announcing his retirement through the NHLPA in 2010. Internationally, Mike Peca is a two-time gold medalist with Team Canada, winning gold at both the 1994 World Junior Championships and the 2002 Winter Olympics. After his retirement, Peca was a head coach of the Buffalo Junior Sabres of the OJHL, winning the OJHL coach of the year.
